The legendary 90s basketball cartoon 『Slam Dunk』 is back!

The 90s were truly the era of 'basketball'.
At the time, middle and high school students memorized the names of not only famous NBA players but also college basketball players, and the theme song of the basketball drama "The Last Game" was playing on the streets.
In this way, the popularity of basketball soared not only in Korea but also in Northeast Asia, including China and Japan, in the 1990s.
The work that contributed to this phenomenon was Takehiko Inoue's "Slam Dunk."


'Slam Dunk', that name still comes to mind

It's already been over 20 years since "Slam Dunk" ended.
But even now, our hearts race when we hear names like ‘Kang Baek-ho’, ‘Seo Tae-woong’, and ‘Jeong Dae-man’.
Just thinking about that time makes my heart race, the popularity of 『Slam Dunk』 was so great at the time.
Even though it was a cartoon, there was no one, regardless of age or gender, who did not know the name ‘Kang Baek-ho.’
In college basketball, when an outstanding player appears, he is given a nickname like 'Jeong Dae-man' of 00 University or 'Seo Tae-woong' of 00 University.
The characters of "Slam Dunk," created by author Takehiko Inoue, had dramatic settings.
Not only the main character, Kang Baek-ho, but also the names of other members, such as Jeong Dae-man, Song Tae-seop, and Chae Chi-su, are vivid in my memory.
The unique and distinct personalities of the characters, as well as the detailed stories that portray each member, are what make "Slam Dunk" even more appealing.

Slam Dunk: Newly Revamped Edition Returns After 20 Years

“I’m drawing a new one because I miss you guys.”
A picture posted on Inoue Takehiko's SNS made Slam Dunk fans go wild.
This is because there were handwritten words from the protagonist, ‘Kang Baek-ho’, along with sketch illustrations.
Soon after, news of the 『Slam Dunk New Edition』 was heard.
The cover of 『Slam Dunk New Edition』, which will be published in Korea this year, is entirely made with new color illustrations by Takehiko Inoue.
While the original version had 31 volumes, the newly revised version has 20 volumes.
And each cover is decorated with beautiful illustrations by Inoue Takehiko, featuring the familiar faces of Kang Baek-ho, Seo Tae-woong, and Jeong Dae-man.


The subtitles of each volume of the book also change.
Each volume is composed of concise yet accurate titles that allow readers to see the subject at a glance, such as 'First Match: Neungnamjeon' and 'Buksan Problem Children Group'.
Volume 1 of the new version depicts the process of Kang Baek-ho, a problem student at Buk-san High School who knew nothing about basketball, joining the basketball club.
Volume 2 shows the main character, Kang Baek-ho, adapting to the team after joining the basketball club, including refusing the offer to join the judo club despite the boring training process.
Volumes 3 and 4 depict the first match against Kangho Neungnam High School, which is considered one of the top 4 in the country.
Although it is only a practice match, it is the first match since Kang Baek-ho joined the team, so we can watch Kang Baek-ho's first performance as a member of the Buk San High School team.
Volume 5 introduces the appearance of Song Tae-seop and Jeong Dae-man, two other rivals of the Buk-san High School basketball team, in addition to Kang Baek-ho and Seo Tae-woong.
The story begins when the injured 'Song Tae-seop' returns to the team.
In Volume 6, the process of 'Jung Dae-man', who had fallen to the level of a problem child at Buk-san High School, abandoning his past and returning to the basketball team was depicted.


Volumes 1 to 6 of the 20 volumes are scheduled to be published first in mid-August 2018.
It will be published in four installments: volumes 7-10 (scheduled for publication in September), volumes 11-14, and volumes 15-20.
