Lee Sang, known as a "genius," a "madman," or a "modern boy," is well known as a poet, but he is also a brilliant novelist who, through experimental compositions and an unconventional style, portrayed the confused and anxious inner psychology of colonial modern Korea and the people who lived through that period.


Through the characters in the novel, who exist abstractly without any social foundation or background, the author sought to expose the suppressed impulses and hidden desires of uprooted urbanites and alienated intellectuals, and to brutally reveal their unconsciousness.
