Into the book
○ He doesn't feel the need for physical education classes.
The reason is that they do not know the need for physical activity and have not experienced it.
<...syncopation>
Teacher A experienced the so-called 'Ana-gong class' when he was young, where the teacher threw a ball and the students played on their own.
So I don't have any good memories of gym class and I don't know why I had to do it.
Since I don't feel the need, I also feel it's a hassle to change into gym clothes for gym class.
So, what should Teacher A do now?
--- p.21

○ The reason why we must work hard on physical education is for ‘brain development.’
Physical activity in elementary school students directly means brain development, which is advantageous for their survival.
So we have to have physical education classes.
Based on this, the directions that elementary physical education classes should pursue are ① romantic physical education (fun), ② basic movement skills, ③ movement and manipulation movements, and ④ health and exercise physical strength.

--- p.62

○ You should do a lot of activities that include basic movement skills, movement and manipulation movements, and the sub-elements of health and exercise physical strength.
This is the direction that elementary physical education should be heading.
If you are at a loss as to how to conduct a physical education class, try preparing and conducting the class with this direction in mind.
--- p.62

Have you ever tried a new physical activity and failed? Imagine a sport that seemed so fun you confidently introduced it to your students, only to fail.
I have had many such experiences.
From the perspective of discovering new physical activities, I have no choice but to try many activities that my fellow teachers say are fun.
Sometimes you succeed, but on the other hand, there are many times you fail.
The 'failure' mentioned here refers to students' reactions of not having fun, or cases where fights break out due to competition.

--- p.114

○ How can we escape from such dangerous physical education classes?
There are two magic phrases that will make your gym class a success.
Okay, let's follow along!
“Guys, let’s play a light practice game first.”
“How about trying it? I like it, I wish I could give it a try.”
--- p.114

○ If you focused on the health area in March and April, it would be good to focus on the competition area in May and June.
3rd grade is about tag games or the basics of competition, 4th grade is about area competition, 5th grade is about field competition, and 6th grade is about net competition.
It would also be good to guide the safety zone while guiding the competitive zone.
It's especially good for 4th and 5th graders.
The 4th grade safety area is game activity safety.
It would be a good idea to guide and evaluate the safety zone during the competitive area game.
Fifth grade is first aid.

[Activity] Rock-Paper-Scissors Land Grabbing Game
Introduction to the activity
Rock-paper-scissors is a light activity that can be done by pairing up two people.
It's easy to understand if you think of it as a 'snail game' played by two people.
Two people pair up and approach each other, and when they meet, they play rock-paper-scissors.
The winner walks forward, and the loser runs back quickly to return to his/her own land.
If you reach the opponent's land like that, you get 1 point.
The rules are simple, so anyone can enjoy it.
It's more fun if you change your movement.

[Basics]
● Number of people: 2 to 30
● Time required: 5 minutes
● Materials: One marker (for each participant)
● Place a circle marker approximately 15m away from the field.

[Activity Order]
1.
Pair up in pairs and stand facing each other with a circle marker placed about 15 meters apart.
2.
When the game starts, they walk towards each other.
3.
When we meet, we play rock-paper-scissors on the spot.
4.
The winner continues to walk forward.
The loser turns around and runs quickly to the starting circle marker, steps on the circle marker with his foot, turns around and walks forward again.
5.
When we meet again, we play rock-paper-scissors and repeat this process.
6.
If you win rock-paper-scissors while your opponent is stepping on the circle marker, you get 1 point.
If you score, you start over from the beginning.
7.
The person who scores the most points within a set time wins.

[Teacher Baek's Passionate Class Experience]
These activities can conflict because they are walking towards each other.
So when you first start out, explain the risk of collision and tell them to slow down as they get closer.
This activity can be modified in two ways:
① If you want to increase your physical activity, increase the distance you exercise.
② Mix and match the 8 movement movements (walking, running, jumping, hopping, leaping, skipping, galloping, and side stepping).
The important thing in this activity is to go slowly when moving forward, and go quickly when losing the game of rock-paper-scissors and returning to the starting point.
Therefore, you can use walking, jumping, and hopping to move forward, and running, galloping, and skipping to move back to the starting point.
This is a good activity to do when learning movement.

Publisher's Review
Physical education textbook writing, teacher training, YouTube channel "Passionate Teacher Baek"
The Walking Encyclopedia of Elementary Physical Education, Seong Gi-baek's Guide to Physical Education Classes (Why)
How, What, and Physical Education Philosophy in One Book!

This book, "Teacher, What Are We Doing for Physical Education Today?" began with the questions children ask with bright eyes every morning.
“Teacher, what are we doing for PE today?”
This question is asked by every elementary school teacher.
This is the question most students ask their teachers on the mornings of physical education classes.
Elementary school teachers find this question both welcome and perplexing.
I know my students' love for physical education, but I have concerns about whether I can live up to their expectations.
What was the author's state of mind when he wrote this book?
“What should I say I’m doing in gym class today?”

Teachers search for physical activities here and there to meet the needs of their students.
And spend physical education time with your children and have fun doing that activity.
Even though I continue to take classes like that for 1-2 years or several years, physical education classes are still difficult.
As time goes by, we tend to gain more expertise in physical education classes. Why? It's because the "Why" and "How" of physical education classes haven't been fully addressed.
This book focuses on activities (What) that fully reflect the direction (Why) and method (How) of physical education classes, and contains exactly 50 activities (What) that children like while reflecting the current curriculum, recommended by passionate teacher Ki-Baek, who is passionate about physical education!

“Knowing the direction (Why) of physical education classes allows you to step back from the immediate physical activity and gain the ‘foresight’ to choose which physical activities are meaningful.
And you'll get a 'compass' to help you navigate your PE class.
Also, if you know how to teach physical education, it is not difficult to plan a lesson and lead it for an hour.
“This way, you can lead physical education classes well for a year.” _From the author’s words

Activities that children enjoy while reflecting the curriculum
Activities that are less burdensome for teachers and provide a justification for class downtime
50 elementary school physical activities—it's hard to even compile them all!

[Activities that involve no students being left out]
① A chase game using rock-paper-scissors
Rock-Paper-Scissors Chase Game, Rock-Paper-Scissors Land Grab, Relay Rock-Paper-Scissors Game, Two-Team Rock-Paper-Scissors Relay Game, Pyramid Rock-Paper-Scissors Game, Rock-Paper-Scissors Score Hunter
② Games using dice
Dice relay game with different distances, dice relay game with different number of wheels, 31 dice relay game, dice tag game

[Kids' Favorite Tag-Based Activities]
① Tag: Line Tag, Banana Tag, Dongdaemun Tag, Net Tag, Smurf Tag, Bodyguard Tag
② Tail catching: Cooperative tail catching by origin, revival, and group, tail catching by revival of troublemakers, tail catching by ability, tail catching by fishing, tail catching by scarecrow
③ Jinnori: Ageing, Transformation Dabanggu, Cone Stealing Jinnori, Treasure Fight Jinnori, Charge Energy Jinnori, Catch or Not?, Jinnori Resurrection Dodgeball
④ Other tag games: Chaser, Killer & Healer, Raccoon 1, 2, 3, Avatar Game, Avoid the Hunter, Square Cooperative Tag, Pinwheel Running Game

[Group-based collaborative activities to foster a sense of community]
① Activities where the efforts of each part add up to the sum of the whole: carrying pizza, baton relay, zigzag running, number relay
② Activities that involve moving together and achieving a common goal: Aejijungji ball collecting, cooperative up & down ball relay, rubber band race, survival cooperative long relay, hoop train game 1, hoop train game 2, hoop train game 3
③ Activities that involve being considerate and helpful to teammates: High Five Consideration Run, One Heart Run, Witch Tag, and Crossroads Game

This book is perhaps the story of Teacher Ki-Baek's struggles in physical education class!
If you haven't seriously considered elementary school physical education and failed countless times,
This book contains stories that simply cannot be told!
A PE class roadmap that no one can ask or answer

The author Seong Gi-baek's sub-character is 'Passionate Teacher Gi-baek'.
He believes that the most important thing for a teacher is 'passion', so he named his sub-character 'Passionate Teacher' and works hard every day to promote elementary school physical education.
He is also a teacher YouTuber with 30,000 subscribers.
What brought this passionate teacher to where he is today was his experience of failure and rejection in the classroom.
I've had experiences where I confidently introduced certain physical activities to my students because they seemed so fun, only to fail.
I am proud to say that I have had more such experiences than anyone else.

This book contains everything about elementary school physical education that the author has struggled with and pondered over for 10 years while teaching physical education to children, including his experiences of failure and success, writing textbooks, conducting teacher training, making physical education videos to share with fellow teachers, and writing blog posts under the name Passionate Teacher.
So, I want to strongly say that it is more realistic and, because it was written from the perspective of a teacher and with children in mind, it is of practical help to elementary school physical education.
Are you an elementary school teacher who's a veteran in other subjects but feels intimidated by physical education? Do you want to avoid physical education, which should be the most educational and fun class? I highly recommend this book to such teachers.
