IB Education, This is How We Do It!
Description
Book Introduction
A school where both students and teachers are satisfied and grow together.
IB education is possible!

-There is an education that gives opportunity and hope to every child who challenges and works hard!

As the introduction of IB education is in full swing in regional offices of education, including Jeju, Daegu, and Gyeonggi, interest in and expectations for IB education are high.
In fact, Jeju Pyoseon High School, which attracted attention by being the first public school in Korea to introduce IB education, recently announced that it achieved the best entrance exam results since its opening in the 2024 school year.
(Jeju Pyoseon High School graduates its first IB high school student... "Top college entrance exam results, too" - Yonhap News, January 9, 2024)

This book goes beyond the general overview of the IB education system, delving deeper into the philosophy and ultimate goals of IB education and closely examining how these are implemented within individual schools through real-world classroom experiences.
Author Jason Song, principal, founded NCA, a private school in Los Angeles, USA, in 1999, where he taught under the existing AP education system for 10 years, and then received certification as an IB school in 2009 and taught under the IB education system for 15 years.
As a witness who has watched children grow in two different education systems, the author says he has come to appreciate the value of an IB education.
In fact, nearly all NCA graduates go on to universities in the top 5% of the United States, but the author notes that not all NCA students were initially exceptional. Many students have transformed, progressed rapidly, and achieved remarkable results through their IB education.
The author says that IB education is an elite education, but it is also an education that provides opportunity and hope to all children who try and challenge themselves, as children who did not enjoy studying and lacked confidence in their abilities have changed amazingly through IB education.

Publisher's Review
A true education that prepares you for admission to a prestigious university and beyond!

“Understand it later, memorize it first since it will be on the test!”
Let's think again about this saying that you may have heard at least once during your middle and high school years.
Even though the latest buzzwords make us laugh, we need to understand them. Trying to memorize new knowledge without understanding it is incredibly frustrating for both the learner and the teacher.
But if you don't memorize it, are there any other clever ways? Here's an alternative.
In the NCA that the author teaches, when learning about the American Civil War in history class, memorizing the states that voted for and against it is not very important.
Rather, he gradually develops his own perspective by deeply thinking and discussing what President Lincoln's motives were, whether he believes the war was truly about solving the slavery issue or not, and what its relationship is to the racial issues that America has been experiencing to this day.
It is truly a time to 'build up' your own thoughts, opinions, and logic.

The author asserts that the IB education, which analyzes and refines and expresses one's own thoughts based on data and logic, goes beyond simple memorization and enables true study.
And in a very interesting and fun way.
Whether it's a design class where students reason about their preferences, a literature class where they ponder the American Dream while assessing the author's intentions, or a history class where Cold War leaders are portrayed through witty raps, you'll find yourself completely absorbed.
Through this process, NCA graduates have entered numerous prestigious universities, from Princeton to UC Berkeley, and from West Point to Yale, and have achieved outstanding academic achievements there.

To all readers who are concerned about education for the future

This book also includes a conversation between NCA Principal Jason Song and Shin Hye-soo, a researcher at the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education's IB Policy Implementation Research Group, titled "Education for the Future through the IB." The two teachers delve into a rich and thoughtful discussion, exploring everything from misconceptions and truths about IB education to specific application directions and case studies, to the path toward education where teachers and students grow together.
Additionally, it contains rich stories from NCA graduates who have actually received IB education, teachers who are directly teaching IB education, and parents who have witnessed the changes in their children firsthand.
This will serve as a valuable guide for teachers, educators, and anyone else concerned about the true direction and method of education for the next generation of our children.
