Teacher's perspective
Description
Book Introduction
Sight, aesthetics, community, content, design
A deep look into myself, education, and the world through the eyes of a teacher.
Teachers, Meet Me in Class, Teachers, Meet Me in Life
A new book from the author of a bestseller in education.
A new book by Taehyun Kim, author of “Teacher, Meet Me in Class” (2012) and “Teacher, Meet Me in Life” (2016), has been published after four years.
Since their publication, 『Teacher, Meet Myself in Class』 and 『Teacher, Meet Myself in Life』, which have been bestsellers in the field of education, have helped teachers build their inner selves, reflect on their classes, and provide small comforts in the difficult daily lives, helping them regain their lost selves.
And even now, it is still loved by countless teachers in Korea.
Recent discourse on future education only talks about getting ahead and moving quickly.
In this book, the author attempts to regain the 'teacher's perspective' by looking into the lives of teachers and our education from a slightly different perspective.
Through this lens, we delve deeper into the value of the ordinary day, the daily life that teachers experience.
And I also think about the universal suffering that we have to endure as human beings before we become teachers.

Publisher's Review
Ordinary values found through the teacher's perspective, the perspective of existence.
When teachers make decisions in any situation, the first thing they consider is the student's life.
As an educator, I strive to give my students what's most meaningful, so I try to think deeply and make decisions that others might not even look into.
The author calls this the ‘teacher’s gaze’ or the ‘gaze of existence.’
The gaze of existence refers to a gaze that deeply looks into how we are living now and how we will live in the future.
But since when did we start trying to wrap education in special, unusual words when talking about it?
The small, everyday things accumulate to create something special, but there are many people who say that education should not value the ordinary, but rather move towards something special.
In addition to the future society, the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and artificial intelligence that have been on the rise for several years, terms like online classes, remote classes, and blended learning have been frequently mentioned recently amid the unprecedented chaos caused by COVID-19.
This puts a lot of pressure on teachers to do something to keep up.
As a result, the ordinary values that we should have cherished from the beginning are being forgotten.
It seems like only futuristic and progressive things are coming, and stories about small and simple things are gradually disappearing.
For civilization to advance, people's consciousness and behavior must change, but that doesn't mean everything must change.
There are ordinary values that we must uphold.
For example, in education, it is the warmth of holding each other's hands, the communication of looking into each other's eyes, and the empathy of listening deeply to each other's words.
As we seek out the ordinary values and commonplace values that we must once again grasp through the eyes of a teacher, we must seriously consider the lives of teachers facing the present and the future.
6 keywords discovered in everyday life
Teachers always have a thirst for growth and are busy running around trying to satisfy this thirst.
I keep looking for that something special.
But the solution to all problems begins in one's ordinary daily life.
In this way, the author found six words in the most ordinary of daily lives: 'gaze, aesthetic eye, message, community, content, and design.'
The gaze is 'seeing'.
Aesthetics is 'feeling'.
The message is 'thinking', and the community is 'connecting'.
Content is 'expression', and design is 'imagination'.
These words pose weighty questions about our lives.
Gaze_ What am I seeing now?
Simmi-an_ What do I feel now?
Message_ What am I thinking now?
Community_ Who am I with now?
Content_ What am I expressing now?
Design_ What am I imagining now?
By answering these questions for yourself, teachers will be able to gain clues about how to live as 'me' and become 'we.'
This book doesn't just offer warm, comforting words like, "You're already enough, and you're living well."
In a reality where many things are changing, we as teachers have to think together about how to endure this reality, so in some areas, we intentionally ask teachers to practice simple things.
We will be able to rediscover the 'teacher's perspective' that dreams new dreams about ourselves, schools, education, and the world.
