Into the book
Humans are essentially beings who live by doing something.
There may be times when complete rest is necessary, but if it becomes permanent, life can lose its meaning.
As life expectancy increases in modern society, some form of 'work' is necessary to fill the 20 to 30 years after retirement meaningfully.

--- p.19

We sometimes limit ourselves by thinking, 'It's too late,' 'Circumstances don't allow,' or 'I don't have the ability.'
But Bandura's research shows that we are all powerful agents who can change our lives.
He explained this through four core characteristics: self-reflectiveness, forethought, intentionality, and self-reactiveness.

--- p.35

The dreams of middle-aged people are likely to be specific and realistic.
It's an age where you know reality and can gauge what's possible.
If you draw it concretely and realistically, it has a higher chance of coming true.
For a simpler, more satisfying life than the dreams of your 20s, now is your turn.

--- p.51

A person's personality is an important factor that determines an individual's behavior, way of thinking, and emotions.
But we often find ourselves asking questions like, "Why do I act this way?" or "Why are others different from me?"
One tool that provides answers to these questions is the Enneagram, which covers nine personality types.
The Enneagram is not simply a personality classification; it is a powerful tool for self-understanding and growth by exploring the motivations and emotional sources deep within each person.

--- p.54

In this book, the Enneagram is used as a starting point for recognizing one's own uniqueness, and as a tool to promote awareness of one's own unique identity in this world rather than being fixated on the type itself.
From the next chapter onwards, we will continue the work of solidifying our own identity through our own stories.

--- p.77

A life theme is a pattern or theme that appears repeatedly in our lives.
For example, themes could be 'challenge yourself with something new' or 'helping others'.
Discovering these themes can help us understand the direction we've unconsciously pursued in life and make our future choices more meaningful.

--- p.80

Values are the fundamental motivations that guide what we pursue in life, the direction we choose and the actions we take, and they also play an important role in our interactions with others.
The more clearly we understand this, the more confidently we can lead our lives.

--- p.102

Once your life values (ultimate and instrumental) and career values become clear, you can establish a reference point for every decision-making moment.
If you ask yourself, "What is truly important to me?" and then choose and act accordingly, you will gain greater stability and direction as you prepare for the second half of your life.

--- p.121

Why are mission statements such a powerful tool? According to research from the Harvard Business Review, people with a clear sense of purpose tend to have higher job satisfaction and better cope with stress and burnout than those without.
What's particularly noteworthy is that the effectiveness is even greater when an individual's strengths are integrated into their mission.

--- p.126

Effective management and adaptation are necessary as roles change and are added.
Role transitions can be broadly categorized into three types: role addition (becoming a parent or manager), role loss (children becoming independent, retirement), and role redefinition (parental roles changing as children grow up).
Each type presents unique challenges and opportunities.

Publisher's Review
12-week master plan,
Life Blueprint for the Next 20 Years

LifeCraft is a process of designing and creating your own future work and life.
Discover yourself, explore your identity, organize your life from past to future, set goals for the second half of your life, and establish an action plan.
And it allows you to find your own work to live the second half of your life as your true self.

‘Work’ is not simply a means of making a living, but rather it is about creating value for myself and others and proving my worth.
So what should we do in the second half of our lives?

This book approaches work from the perspective of a meaningful activity that confirms the value of human existence and connects us to society.
Let's begin a journey to redefine who we are as individuals, based on the 20 years of hard work we've put in so far, and to discover what our "own work" will be for the next 20 years.

This book is not a 'book to be read' but a 'book to be written by hand'.

It is a journey of finding the answers to my life by drawing out thoughts directly from my fingertips, rather than following the letters with my eyes.
It provides an immersive time to redefine my values, discover my strengths, and derive a theme for my life.

Referring to the presented case, check your readiness for the second half of your life through self-diagnosis.
As an agent designing my own life, I measure my capabilities through the questions presented and explore practical directions for strengthening my capabilities.
And after understanding my personality through the Enneagram personality type, I derive my life theme and strengthen the meaning of my future choices.
By asking the fundamental question, “What do I value?”, I derive my life values and professional values and establish a plan for my future ‘work’.

I combine the discoveries and insights I gain about myself through this process to create my own unique mission statement.
This will be my personal compass for life, encapsulating who I am, what I live for, and how I want to contribute to the world.
