Finding one's way in public service
Description
Book Introduction
“I am a representative lecturer in the Republic of Korea who dreams of standardizing official documents!”
The author of "How to Write Official Documents That Pass Without a doubt" shares his wise civil servant life.
A rigid organizational culture, excessive civil service workload, and a sense of deprivation due to relatively low salaries have led to a recent surge in the number of new civil servants resigning.
To prevent this kind of departure and enhance the professionalism and integrity of public officials, continuous self-development is paramount.
Article 64 of the National Civil Service Act stipulates that “Civil servants may not engage in any work for profit other than their official duties, and may not hold other positions concurrently without the permission of the head of the organization to which they belong.”
If a more flexible and open atmosphere is created for holding multiple jobs and generating additional income within the scope of these principles, it could have a positive effect in preventing the exodus of MZ generation civil servants.
《Finding Your Way in Public Service》 contains the self-development story of a 19-year veteran educational administration civil servant who successfully built his personal brand by developing his own content called 'How to Write Official Documents.'
The author, whose goal is to "standardize official documents in the Republic of Korea," is faithful to his main job as a public official, while systematizing the writing of official documents and generating new revenue through various channels such as blogs, book publications, lectures, and the development of job training content.
His story of growing from an ordinary civil servant to a unique brand presents a new growth model for civil servants through self-development, professional development, and personal branding.

Into the book
After much deliberation, I finally decided to live 'my way'.
Up until now, I've been working harder than anyone else on the 'things I have to do', so from now on, I've decided to live my life doing the 'things I want to do'.
Until now, I have looked to other people as role models and tried to be like them, but from now on, I have decided to become a new role model.
I decided to spend the remaining 23 years of my life, including the 10 years after retirement, until I am 70, becoming a person of social contribution rather than pursuing personal achievements.
The goal is ‘standardization of our country’s official documents.’
--- From the "Preface" on p.8
I happened to read the 'Integrity Pledge Oath' that is regularly held every January as a headquarters event, and planned a new 'Integrity Pledge Relay'.
While working on a website during my college days, I personally designed and created simple images, so this time I also created a representative image and wrote a new plan.
The content was that if public officials of grades 8 and 9 in our Office of Education wrote and submitted a pledge of integrity, aspirations for their future public service, and examples of best practices in practicing integrity, they would be posted on the Audit Department blog of the main office, direct organizations, and Office of Education in that order, and would be promoted to all faculty and staff through Facebook.
Institutions that were struggling to make progress were encouraged to complete the project.
As a result, the 'Integrity Pledge Relay' was able to produce successful results with the participation of approximately 280 general public officials.
--- pp.47-48 「7.
From “The Beginning of Planning”
At the time, I published the completed review materials on the Naver blog called ‘The Principles of Writing Official Documents’ that I was running.
The purpose was to provide accurate information to those who have difficulty writing official documents, so that anyone could easily and correctly write official documents by simply referring to this information.
Even after the public disclosure, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's "Administrative Work Operation Manual" was revised, and whenever the National Institute of the Korean Language published guidelines related to official documents, these contents were additionally reflected and continued to be supplemented.
Currently, this material is being distributed to anyone for free as a 34-page PDF file on the blog 'The Essentials of Writing Official Documents'.
It is safe to say that this document has become the most frequently viewed summary of official documents by civil servants, public institutions, and university employees in our country.
--- pp.127-128 「3.
From “National Institute of the Korean Language’s Review and Public Disclosure”
He gradually built his career by disclosing reviews and satisfaction results that differentiate him from other instructors.
My lecture experience, which started out as just three lines, gradually increased over time, and good lecture reviews and evaluation results were collected into one.
An official from the Office of Education training center, where I had never given a lecture before, recommended me to an official from a university in the same area.
One career led to another, and viral marketing naturally followed, thanks to lecture reviews from trainees across the country.
So, just three years after I decided to leave my position as an internal lecturer, I started giving lectures at 100 institutions nationwide.

Publisher's Review
▶ Introducing the "growth story" of an ordinary civil servant and a best practice example of practical self-development.
This book contains the author's real-life experience of starting out as an ordinary civil servant and growing into a nationally recognized lecturer through self-development and development of "my own content" rather than following the same promotion path as others. It goes beyond the life of a wise civil servant and honestly shows the active administration of the work assigned to him, the self-development connected to it, and the trial and error and challenges experienced along the way, thereby providing readers with practical motivation and courage that "anyone can grow in their field."
▶ Presenting new possibilities for public official personal branding.
In this book, the author presents specific methods for overcoming the limitations of civil service and developing a unique content called "How to Write Official Documents" while remaining faithful to one's main job, and building one's own brand through various channels such as blogs, book publications, lectures, and online content, while also harmoniously pursuing self-development.
This is significant in that it allows public officials to expand their social influence based on their own expertise and pioneer new career paths through personal branding.
▶ Providing practical solutions for motivation in the public sector.
In a reality where rigid organizational cultures, repetitive routines, and low motivation are leading to an increasing number of new civil servants leaving the workforce, this book emphasizes a flexible approach to self-development, generating additional income, and holding multiple jobs.
The author's case demonstrates that civil servants can also develop independently and contribute to society in various ways.
This is significant in that it presents a new vision for MZ generation civil servants and contains practical solutions for the public service to become more open and creative.
