Into the book
Urban sketching refers to drawing city landscapes, streets, and buildings.
It was named Urban Sketch in 2007 by Gabriel Campanario, a former painter and journalist, and is often abbreviated as USK.
Urban sketching, strictly speaking, is based on the basic rule of drawing and completing on-site.
However, in our country, even drawing from photos taken while traveling is considered urban sketching in a small sense.
--- p.12
Urban Sketch can be drawn using a variety of pens, including ballpoint pens, water-based pens, and fountain pens.
However, for beginners, it may be a good idea to draw a rough outline with a pencil and then finish it by revising it with a pen.
In fact, drawing directly with a pen can be very helpful in improving your skills.
But rather than trying to draw a perfect line from the beginning and getting frustrated and giving up because it doesn't turn out the way you wanted, I think it's important to find a way to have fun with it and keep doing it for a long time.
If you keep repeating it, you will fall in love with the charm and fun of urban sketching, so have the courage to follow along.
--- p.36
The biggest advantage of drawing with a pencil is that you can correct mistakes.
You can draw it with that level of perfection.
The pencil can be pressed down to create a heavy feel, which can be used to highlight an area you want to emphasize, or it can be drawn repeatedly with light, overlapping strokes to create shading, or it can be gently rubbed to create depth.
While pencil work alone can create stunning pieces, pen tracing the pencil lines further captures the urban sketch feel.
--- p.88
Drawing from photos taken while traveling or photos saved on your phone can be a very fun subject to draw because you can work while reminiscing about your memories.
If you find it difficult to draw from a photo at first, converting it to black and white and simplifying the colors can help eliminate the fear of drawing.
After roughly establishing the composition according to the lines changed to black and white, you can draw the details in more detail by looking at the color photo again.
--- p.116
Once you have a decent sketch, you will start to want to color it.
But at first, it's scary and you don't know where to start.
In times like this, one way is to highlight just a few key points.
You can highlight and color the most important points, and omit the other parts.
You can emphasize the sky blue or paint the central part of the building.
For large areas like the sky, you can also apply water to the entire surface with a flat brush, then add a few blue dots and let them spread out naturally.

Publisher's Review
Leave unique memories anytime, anywhere
My own cool way, Urban Sketch!
Do you want to capture the wonderful moments before your eyes in a way that's more special than just a photo? Do you long to draw, but hesitate because you lack confidence or talent? This book will help even those who struggle with drawing, so-called "bear hands," to create their own unique masterpieces with consistent daily practice.
Even beginners can easily follow along and complete it.
Drawing classes that start step by step
This book provides a friendly guide to help you draw in order, from the direction of your wrist and arm when holding a pen to straight lines, curves, and shapes.
If you draw winding lines, you can create trees of various shapes, and if you practice drawing cylinders, you can create a mug filled with a warm drink.
We introduce step-by-step drawing procedures so that you can draw pretty flowers using simple watercolor techniques using paints.
Tools and drawing techniques that create different feelings
Urban Sketch contains special feelings depending on the tool used.
This book collects sketches drawn with various pens to help you understand which tool suits your style or situation, such as a pencil for a soft feel, a liner pen for easy coloring, or a plus pen for a watercolor feel.
Also, just as the foundation is important for building a building, we provide an easy-to-understand introduction to drawing techniques that determine the overall atmosphere of urban sketching.
Challenge yourself to see and draw
If you have practiced step by step and become proficient at drawing familiar subjects, we now guide you to challenge yourself to draw by looking at them.
Let's look at what's right in front of us right now, cars or motorcycles that we can easily see, our favorite famous paintings, and photos of places we enjoyed traveling to, and draw them one by one, adding our own feelings to them.
Also, examples are given of vanishing points and perspective to give a three-dimensional effect to the drawing.
