The World Origami Creative Works Competition is a contest with a long history, having been held since 1987 when Noh Young-hye, the director of the Paper Culture Foundation, launched the K-Origami Culture Movement as part of efforts to revive and recreate our unique origami and paper culture. It started with the [1st Origami Competition] in 1989, followed by the [1st Origami Exhibition] in October of the same year and the [1st Origami Works Call for Applications] in December.
Through such origami contests, K-origami has become established and revitalized as a healthy lifestyle culture and educational activity, and the World Origami Creative Works Contest, which is held on this foundation, has now become a venue for origami enthusiasts and artists from Korea and around the world to present their creative works.

In Korea, there has been a saying since ancient times that "people who are good with their hands are smart," and the name of the card made by folding a piece of paper into three parts has been passed down as "wisdom card."
Furthermore, origami, which can be enjoyed by anyone regardless of time, space, or age, has now gone beyond a pleasant leisure activity to a new lifelong challenge, a creative activity that becomes a wondrous and beautiful work of art, or a step into the profound world of scientific theory, and is developing into science and technology industries such as architecture, rehabilitation medicine, and aerospace engineering for a better future.
