Into the book
The Book of Judges tells the story of Israel after they settled in the land of Canaan.
The book of Joshua ends with the words, “Israel served the Lord” (Joshua 24:31), but the opposite is true in the book of Judges.
Israel forgets God, falls into idolatry, and eventually suffers oppression from foreign nations.
Each time, Israel cried out to God, and God sent judges to save them.
--- p.16 From “Judges, Ruth”

As we follow the stories of the characters in 1 Samuel, we come to a profound realization that God does not look at outward appearances, but at the heart.
We also clearly see that the kings of Israel, unlike the kings of foreign nations, must be completely obedient to God's word.
--- p.26 From "1 Samuel"

We learn more and more that David was a great king, but not a perfect king.
David's many mistakes and sins point us to a better king, the one who would come as the perfect king of Israel.
Jesus Christ walks a completely different path from David, who was obsessed with fleshly lusts and abused his power.
He is a king, but he humbles himself by giving his life for his people and dying on the cross.
--- p.36 From 2 Samuel

The Book of Kings begins with the death of David and the ascension of Solomon to the throne, and covers the division of Israel into the northern kingdom of Israel and the southern kingdom of Judah.
Kings are judged not by their political achievements, but by their obedience to God's word.
And the story of Elijah repeatedly proves that God alone is the true sovereign over nature and history, and that His word is sure to come true.
--- p.46 From “1 Kings”

2 Kings begins with the ascension of Elijah and the ministry of Elisha.
Then, several kings of the northern kingdom of Israel and the southern kingdom of Judah appear, and both nations gradually move away from God's covenant.
God continues to speak through the prophets, but the king and the people never turn back.
In the end, the northern kingdom of Israel was destroyed by Assyria, and the southern kingdom of Judah was destroyed by Babylon.
--- p.56 From “2 Kings”

Chronicles is based on the historical records of Samuel and Kings, but was written to remind the Israelites who returned from captivity of God's covenant.
By reconstructing God's history with Israel, he presents the people with a new direction for starting, focusing on God's faithfulness and the possibility of restoration rather than past failures.
--- p.66 From "Chronicles"

The Chronicles begins with the scene of Solomon building and dedicating the temple, and ends with the story of the destruction of the southern kingdom of Judah by Babylon and the people being taken captive.
It does not cover the history of the northern kingdom of Israel, but focuses solely on the kings of the southern kingdom of Judah, particularly Hezekiah and Josiah, who attempted reforms centered on the temple and the law.
--- p.76 From "2 Chronicles"

The post-exilic period, the period of Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther, vividly illustrates how God's people should live in faith in a foreign land and amidst real-world difficulties.
The Book of Esther depicts the desperate survival of the Jews who still remained in the Persian kingdom, while the Books of Ezra and Nehemiah depict the difficult process of the people who returned to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple and the city walls.
--- p.86 From "Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther"

Publisher's Review
『Reading Jesus Bible Reading Light』 is designed to be easy and practical for those who are just starting to read the Bible or want to read the Bible for the first time with a community.
If you are a pastor, church official, or lay leader preparing a Christ-centered sermon, I recommend that you also refer to the in-depth edition of this book, "Leading Jesus."
It delves deeper into the gospel message contained in each book of the Bible and provides valuable insights for practical ministries such as preaching, teaching, and discipleship training.

Reading the Bible with a Christ-centered approach with "Reading Jesus Bible Reading Light" is an experience that goes beyond mere knowledge or feelings and focuses our gaze on Jesus.
It is a journey where we are renewed each day by the power of the gospel that only He can truly transform our lives, and it becomes richer when we walk together as a church than when we walk alone.
