Respect for John Bevere
![]() |
Description
Book Introduction
This is a book written by John Bevere, author of "Obedience," about the secrets of successful Christians.
This book contains solutions to untangle the tangled interpersonal relationships of Christians, and can be said to be a must-read for Christians who wish to become more like the personal God.
Beginning with the fundamental biblical principle that God will reward those who respect others in His own way, this book illustrates, through a variety of interesting illustrations, the path Christians must follow to receive a "perfect" reward.
It also provides specific guidance on how to respect evangelists, colleagues, those entrusted to one's care, one's wife and children, and all the neighbors one encounters in daily life, and testifies to the power and fruitfulness of practical respect that many Christians have personally experienced.
This will be an opportunity to examine one's own religious life and think about one's attitude toward living as a Christian.

Into the book
The children of Israel did not develop the habit of listening to the word of God.
He rescued them from slavery, but they continued to complain and disobey.
But the price for disobedience was not that great.
Sometimes it seemed to have no effect at all.
But in the meantime, resentment and disobedience were becoming habits.
Then one day, a defining moment in their lives came.
He sent twelve spies to explore the land of Canaan.
The land of Canaan was the land that God had set apart as theirs.
But the spies grumbled and brought back a negative report, and the congregation also began to complain.
But this time the price was steep.
They were forced to wander for the rest of their lives without ever entering the Promised Land.
In an instant, everything that I had worked so hard to obtain was lost.
They could see the land, but they could not get it.
It was as if Rehoboam had lost the ten tribes for the rest of his life and for generations to come.
There is an important lesson here for all of us to learn.
We must not stop at obeying God.
You must know his heart.
When we do this, we can see the wisdom underlying His instructions, rather than simply seeing them as laws.
The young prince Rehoboam did not know the heart of his father or the elders.
Again, the first generation of the Exodus did not see what God was doing or His good heart toward them.
So they lost everything.
This time, let's look at the other side of the coin.
Throughout the Bible, there are examples of people who glimpsed God's heart and made wise decisions.
When life's unexpected, defining moments come, they respond appropriately and are greatly rewarded.
The simplest way to avoid losing the effort you put into getting what you want is to develop the habit of consistently honoring God's counsel.
Every day, every moment, we are faced with a choice.
I don't quite realize it right now.
Then one day you will look back on your life and realize which moments were truly defining moments in your life.
Cultivate godly habits.
Then you will continue to follow that habit and enjoy great rewards.
--- 「Part 1 - Chapter 1.
From "Respect, the Secret to a Prosperous Life"
The third reason we are commanded to submit to demanding authority is that when we rely on God rather than taking matters into our own hands, a godly character is formed within us.
Peter continues, “Therefore, since Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin” (1 Peter 4:1).
In the context of this letter, Christ's sufferings were an injustice to authority.
We too must arm ourselves with the same mindset.
Because we are called to respect authority even when it is unjust.
Peter says that if we do this, we will stop sinning.
It means reaching a place of spiritual maturity.
Paul also confirms this with these words:
“And not only so, but we glory in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope” (Romans 5:3-4).
When our character is strong, we can respect even those who do not behave in a respectable manner.
Moreover, we will act with a deeper fear of God, which in turn will bring greater rewards.

From “How to Deal with Unjust Authority”
Then a voice was heard.
“Who died on the cross? You or me?”
I was speechless.
Then I heard it again.
“I carried your sins, sickness, pain, poverty, and judgment on the cross.
“Because I considered you better than myself.” The relevant scripture he gave was 1 Peter 2:24.
Only then did I realize that I had clearly heard the Lord's voice.
He esteemed me more (thought me better) than himself.
Otherwise, He would not have taken my judgment upon Himself and died in my place.
… (omitted)… Of course, this applies not only to me, but to all of God’s children.
He literally regards and respects each of us as better than Himself.
It is such an embarrassing thing that I can't even imagine.
This is God's true love.
You could say it like this:
“But that is the case with Jesus.
We can never love like that.” Well, here’s the surprising thing.
We can actually love like that.
It is said that the Holy Spirit has poured out God's love into our hearts (see Romans 5:5).
… (omitted)… God’s love is already in our hearts.
Therefore, we must develop it by uniting with the Holy Spirit.
“That doesn’t suit my personality.” “I’m not that kind of person.” Don’t say things like that.

Publisher's Review
A must-read for personal Christians who are becoming more like the personal God!
"Respect," in which John Bevere, author of "Obedience," reveals the secret to a successful life.
It reveals the solution to Christians' tangled interpersonal relationships and the secret to a happy spirituality.
“Those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me I will despise” (1 Samuel 2:30, NIV).
This book begins with the fundamental biblical principle that God will reward those who respect others in His own way.
And it shows, through various interesting parables, the path that Christians must take to receive the 'complete' reward that God gives.
The author says that respect is 'considering others better than oneself.'
It covers the biblical reasons and practical ways for all Christians to respect the leadership of government, society, church, and family.
We examine the solid testimonies and moving confessions of those who practiced respect and were generously rewarded.
God will surely reward those who respect everyone!
When a critical moment comes in life, most people make choices based on their usual habits.
That is why we must develop the habit of listening to God's counsel in advance.
That is, it is a habit of respecting everyone.
People who fear God respect everyone they meet.
That is understandable, for those who fear God know His heart and will.
They know that God speaks through people, and above all, that He delights in respect among His saints.
This book provides specific guidance on how to respect evangelists, colleagues, those entrusted to you, your wife and children, and all the neighbors you encounter in your daily life.
And many Christians testify to the power and fruit of concrete and practical respect that they have personally experienced.
Everyone has a high expectation of being respected, but not many people actually practice respect first.
Sometimes it hurts your pride and makes you feel inferior.
But if you experience the presence of God working through true respect, your life will expand to a new level.
Pray that we may respect our members with the love of Jesus, who honored us to the utmost, even to the point of death on the cross! God greatly rejoices in such prayers.
A life that respects all people means believing in and respecting the God who governs them.
If we honor God as our top priority, we will enjoy His grace and blessings not only in heaven but also on this earth where we stand now.
Read each and every page carefully, taking it to heart! After closing the final chapter of this book, I hope you will be the next protagonist to experience blessings through respect.
