Publisher's Review
Seosan Daesa, the greatest Buddhist monk of the Joseon Dynasty, for Buddhists
Selecting the most important contents of Buddhism
A very moving book, well organized and concise.

『Seonga Gwigam』 contains the essence of Buddhism in simple and concise sentences, so the more you keep it by your side and read it, the more you will gain a deeper taste and pleasure.
This book allows for comparison between the Korean translation and the original text, and is edited in large print for ease of reading.

『Seonga Gwigam』 is a masterpiece by Monk Cheongheo, a representative Buddhist monk of the Joseon Dynasty, commonly known as 'Seosan Daesa' to the general public. It is a must-read for those practicing Zen meditation, and it systematically organizes the essential teachings of Buddhism, such as repentance, chanting, and the six paramitas.
However, because its content was profound and written in Chinese characters, it was a book that was virtually difficult for ordinary Buddhists to access.

Translator Kim Hyeon-jun first encountered this book in high school and has kept it close by ever since, reading it and frequently giving lectures to organizations and individuals with whom he has a connection.
Every time, it became a ‘truly good book’, a ‘book that becomes more enjoyable the more I recite it’, and I was always filled with gratitude towards Seosan Daesa.

Thus, at the recommendation of Monk Seokju, Hyorim Publishing, which the translator is involved in, published 『Seonga Gugam』 translated by Monk Yongdam in 2002, and 『Seonga Guigam』 for pocket in 2007, but I could not shake the feeling that something was lacking.
Then, in 2019, after repeatedly reciting, translating, and editing it, I finally felt a certain level of satisfaction with it, so I edited it again and released it to the world.

The features of this book can be summarized as follows:

ㆍFirst, the Korean translation is easy and beautiful.
ㆍSecond, the original text is included right next to the translation to make it easier to accurately grasp and understand the content.
ㆍThird, by adding only the necessary footnotes without the unnecessary and complicated footnotes or commentaries found in many commercially available books, we focused on the teachings of Seosan Daesa and facilitated the smooth recitation.

This 『Seonga Gwigam』 is a valuable book that can clearly set the direction for our Buddhists, especially Korean Buddhists.
And as the teachers who have gone before have recommended, if you read this book often enough to read it 100, 200, 300 times, you will soon feel that you have reached a higher level.

To those who wonder what goodness is, to those who wish to open their eyes to enlightenment, to those who diligently strive to discover their true selves, and to those who wish to learn the art of mind cultivation and live a life filled with wisdom, glory, and happiness, I highly recommend the new book, "Goodness Guide."
