Short sermon for Sunday school
Short sermon for Sunday school
Description
Book Introduction
How should I preach a short sermon to Sunday school children?
A revised and enriched edition of 『Small Sermons for Children』!

Are you wondering how to give a short sermon to Sunday school children?
I understand the need for doctrinal education, but children play and do other things during sermons... Oh, how can we get our children to focus on the sermon?

We introduce a children's sermon that will solve these concerns!
In today's world where doctrine is dead, many believers do not even know the doctrines contained in the thin baptismal catechism.
There are also believers who are deceived by absurd heretical doctrines.
This is a time when doctrinal education is desperately needed.
Like Timothy, who knew the Bible from a young age, we hope that our Sunday school children will be able to remember the contents of the Christian faith concisely and clearly through 20 weeks of short sermons.

Into the book
The Westminster Shorter Catechism was created by 151 delegates to the Westminster Assembly through over 1,000 regular meetings over a period of approximately five years and six months.
At this time, the Larger Catechism was written for adults, and the Smaller Catechism was written for children and beginners in the faith.
At the time, the church thought that children should know at least the contents of the Shorter Catechism.
But today is an 'age where doctrine is dead.'
There are many believers who do not even know the doctrines contained in the thin baptismal catechism.
There are some believers who are easily deceived by absurd heretical doctrines.
This is a time when doctrinal education is desperately needed.
The sooner the catechesis begins, the better.
Timothy, who knew the Bible from childhood, maintained a strong faith even as an adult (2 Timothy 3:15).
I hope that this book, which is limited in its scope, will help the children of this land to remember the content of the Christian faith concisely and clearly through 20 weeks of short sermons, and thus grow into workers of faith like Timothy.
--- From the Author's Preface

Human Purpose 1: God's Glory
So, do humans have a purpose? Yes, they do.
The Bible says that when God created humans, he created them with two purposes.
The first purpose is found in Isaiah 43:7:
Let's read the words together.
Isaiah 43:7 says that God created humans for His glory.
It means that the purpose of human existence is ‘the glory of God.’
So when someone asks, “What is the purpose of man?” or “Why do we exist?” or “Why do you live?” we should answer, “For the glory of God!”

--- From "01 Human Purpose"

Non-shared properties
This time, we will learn about God's non-communicable attributes, which are not like those of humans and are possessed only by God.
First, it's a battery.
The word omniscient means that it knows everything.
God knows everything.
There is nothing you don't know.
Second, it is omnipotent.
With God all things are possible.
Nothing is impossible with God.
Third, it is ubiquitous.
Omnipresence means that God is everywhere.
We are all limited by space, but God is not limited by space.
Fourth, it is eternal.
God has no beginning or end to his existence.
People are limited by time, but God is not limited by time.
In this way, God has communicable attributes that are similar to humans, but He also has non-communicable attributes that are not similar to humans.
Would you like to learn more about God?

Jesus the Priest
Second, Jesus is a ‘priest.’
What does a priest do? A priest is someone who officiates at sacrifices.
Let's read Leviticus 2:1-2 (first half). When you're about to offer a sacrifice, to whom does it say you should take your offering? It says to take it to the priests.
The primary role of a priest was to officiate at sacrifices.
But Jesus is a little different from the priests of the Old Testament.
In the Old Testament, priests offered sacrifices with animals such as sheep or goats, but Jesus was both a priest and a sacrifice.
And while the sacrifices of the priests had to be repeated, Jesus' sacrifice was a one-time sacrifice.
But its effect was eternal.
Let’s read Hebrews 9:12 together.
Through Jesus' one sacrifice, that is, his death on the cross, we have eternal forgiveness of sins.
--- From “07 The Threefold Office of Jesus”

Doctrine is like a skeleton.
If a building has a weak frame, it is bound to collapse.
The reason why the Korean church today lacks a next generation is due to external factors such as the low birth rate, but also to internal factors such as the inability to properly protect children who were born into the faith.
We must properly teach the next generation of children the doctrines that form the backbone of our faith and build a strong foundation of faith so that they do not lose their faith as adults.
Don't be afraid of repetition.
One of the most effective methods of teaching is repetition.
If you look at children's education, it is repetitive.
However, the content becomes more intense with age.
You should learn how to cook from preschool.
Children, teenagers, young adults, and adults must continue to learn repeatedly, but in a more in-depth manner appropriate to their age.
