Revelation for the Remnant
Description
Book Introduction
Exposing the problems of the interpretation of the Book of Revelation, which is riddled with conjecture, exaggeration, and falsehood.
I challenge you to become disciples who follow the Lamb, who is God's justice and peace!
The Book of Revelation records a battle between two cities, Babylon and New Jerusalem.
Finally, Babylon will be defeated and the New Jerusalem will triumph.
It takes imagination to believe this amazing truth.
From the perspective of John, a subversive first-century dissident exiled to a remote island, it is difficult to imagine that the mighty Roman Empire would be defeated by a mere colony, Jerusalem.
Yet, that was the message of the Book of Revelation for our time, and today we too will find a remarkable vision for how we can faithfully follow Jesus in an unjust world.

Into the book
The Book of Revelation is not a mysterious secret book predicting a specific time, but a theology that transcends a specific era.
The moment this book disguises itself as a prophecy pinning down future events, its timeless message disappears from the book.
Tragically trapped in the framework of history and its repetitive nature, transcending time, constantly summons the Babylon depicted in the Book of Revelation into reality.
Yet, they abusively prophesy that the Pope is the Antichrist, Russia and the European Union are Gog and Magog, and that Israel will be reborn as a nation.
This ignores the call of the Book of Revelation to be “discerning disciples” and “disciples who stand against unjust systems” against the Babylon of our world.
--- 「1.
Among “Too Much Chitchat”
Imagination comforts the oppressed, the discouraged, the wanderers, and the longing.
If you experience with your five senses the countless symbols and images that overflow in the Book of Revelation, you will not lose courage and will trudge through the snowy field filled with despair, no matter how slow it may be.
I will trust more firmly in God, the Lord of Lords and King of Kings.
Even if some dictator or tyrant comes and tramples on our way of life, we will be able to move forward.
Therefore, even though the Book of Revelation is quite similar to the world of fantasy or fiction, it cannot be said to be fantasy or fiction.
Fueled by such imagination, John produced a text full of advances and pauses, new advances and more pauses.
John takes us on a journey through his Apocalypse, inspiring our imaginations to shape us into disciples who resist unjust systems.
--- 「3.
From “Revelation and Imagination”
I repeat, among the many ways to read the Book of Revelation, there is no way of noticing that the lion is a lamb, but the importance of the lamb in this book is often overlooked.
According to that interpretation, the Lamb is no different from the victorious lion, sword in hand, in the noisy and bloody battle of Armageddon.
Such Christology is prone to speculation about 'when this will happen, where it will happen, and who will be the Antichrist.'
In this way, the Book of Revelation is seriously distorted.
This lion (as we will see shortly) is the Lamb who triumphs in the bloody battlefield with the weapon of nonviolence, the Word of God, instead of the sword.
--- 「7.
From "The Lamb"
To understand the seven judgments that occur three times, we must embrace them all in prayer, asking God to establish justice, asking God to act, and asking God to establish righteousness.
This judgment does not seek revenge, nor does it encourage Schadenfreude (the feeling of pleasure at the misfortune of others).
It has nothing to do with triumphalism or colonialism.
I can never participate in such a thing.
No matter how blatant the injustice, God will ultimately correct the disaster.
The three seven judgments are not a chronicle of brutal retribution that will occur sequentially.
The three judges return separately.
But whenever necessary, we all cry out in one voice:
God will establish justice, Babylon's evil will be destroyed, and the New Jerusalem will become a clear reality.
--- 「11.
From "3x7=Completion"
All of this leads to a central question that permeates our lives today:
“Isn’t our faith too closely tied to the state and state power?” Christian nationalism has infected the church since the 4th century.
The blurring of the lines between the state and the church of Rome has long been a source of trouble.
Because the church is now under the jurisdiction of the government, the state, and the military.
In a mixture that is no different from idolatry, the symbols of empire are transformed into symbols of nationalism and religion, and religious nationalism seeks to make Christ a mere servant of its own power.
Idolaters are willing to use religion to empower their nation.
What about you? Don't you see the national flag waving so shamelessly in your church? Those who have been trained as disciples and follow the Lamb discern the specter of nationalism and, as disciples who reject the established order, resist it.
John will also nod his head in agreement.
--- 「17.
From "Babylon Digging into the Seven Churches"
The Book of Revelation calls us to stand on the side of the Lamb in this world.
To read this book well, you must learn to think from the perspective of “theo-politics.”
That is, the Book of Revelation consistently speaks of the public nature of discipleship.
The Book of Revelation reveals how God views the world He created, and also shows us how to discern the dragon, the wild beast, and Babylon.
If we say we are committed to social participation but leave God on the margins of our private lives, we will not be able to realize the Book of Revelation in reality.
This book says that God's politics is the only politics.
As Elizabeth Fiorenza repeatedly reminds us, the Book of Revelation “will only provide us with adequate theological and ethical answers if we are directly involved in a sociopolitical situation that cries out for justice.”

The True Message of the Book of Revelation Revived by Scott McKnight
This book is a declaration of Christian discipleship that rejects an unjust system!
“I finally understood the confusing beauty and mystery of the book called Revelation.
McKnight and Matchit expose interpretations riddled with speculation, exaggeration, and falsehood, and reveal the true prophecy of God's justice and peace, the way of the Lamb.
“The reading of Revelation is a trumpet call to rally God’s people, his disciples, against an unjust system.”
_Recommended by Michael Gorman, Miroslav Volf, Lynn Kochick, and Beth Allison Barr
In the winter of 1972, Scott McKnight, then a high school sophomore, experienced a personal conversion.
His life was completely changed, and he was reborn as a passionate high school student passionate about the Christian faith.
He opened the Bible and the Book of Revelation and continued to collect and read books on the Apocalypse, eschatology, and the Rapture until he graduated from college.
At the time, it was all the rage to speculate about how the world historical and political events of the 1970s fit with the Bible.
The world was on the brink of destruction, and I was filled with the conviction that if I didn't look up, I would eventually be abandoned and left behind, and the whole world would burn.
Scott McKnight also believed this outrageous speculation for a long time.
He confesses that he believed wholeheartedly not only during his teenage years, but even during his youth when he was studying theology and when he first became a professor.
But the stark fact that the church still exists on this earth means that all the prophecies that so many preachers and writers had been spouting were nothing more than empty boasts.
Through this, he became aware of the reality of people manipulating the Book of Revelation by interpreting it in their own way.
Reading the Book of Revelation based on speculation only makes the church sick and teaches escapism.
A church that is hardened by this interpretation will lose the spirit of resistance encapsulated in this wonderful book, and its efforts to become true disciples of Christ will be in vain.
If the Book of Revelation isn't a book full of speculation about the Antichrist and the millennium, then what exactly is it? How did 21st-century American evangelicalism lose its theological foundation? How did it become a monster it must fight? The two authors reveal the true nature of the Book of Revelation to the church, especially the evangelical community.
The Book of Revelation calls for discipleship against an unjust system.
I challenge you to live as Christians who resist Babylon today.
The discipleship Jesus spoke of in the Book of Revelation teaches us to discern the Babylon that exists among us and to become anti-establishment, not conformist.
Because so many interpretations focus solely on 'who,' 'where,' and 'what,' we have missed the true message of discipleship.
The goal of this book is to teach you how to read the book of Revelation with the insight that Babylon exists beyond time and space, and to discover how Christians can be faithful witnesses in the midst of Babylon.
The message John prophesies becomes a powerful light, clearly revealing the true nature of Babylon, which is secretly operating in the world.
In the process, the atrocities of the churches that conspired with Babylon will also be revealed.
The message this book delivers is also crucial for Korean society and churches, which are not free from the influence of American theological, pastoral, and political currents.
The Book of Revelation records a battle between two cities, Babylon and New Jerusalem.
We must come out of the dragon's clutches and stand on the side of the Lamb.
Finally, Babylon will be defeated and the New Jerusalem will triumph.
It takes imagination to believe this amazing truth.
