Into the book
The crux of the problem is that simply knowing the Word is not enough to change people.
Human beings, who have a sinful nature, are full of desires and selfishness, and are totally depraved, do not change that easily.
For life to change, it is not enough to just read, hear, and know the Bible.
Even understanding the word and receiving grace is not enough.
All of these things are necessary, but they alone do not change a person.
There must be something more to this.
What is it? Meditation and application.
--- From "Introductory Remarks"
The Bible is food for the spirit.
However, simply reading, listening, studying, and even memorizing the Word does not automatically become spiritual food.
For the Word to be absorbed by us as spiritual food rather than remaining as information or knowledge, a process of meditation is necessary.
The words we read, hear, or study are like the food in our refrigerator.
The content and meaning gleaned from the Bible are the best spiritual food.
But just as the ingredients in your refrigerator are of no use if you don't cook them and eat them, so too are the words of God of no use if you don't eat them and digest them.
Every word can become real spiritual food through meditation.
Because meditation is the act of eating and digesting the Word.
--- From "The Value of Meditation"
The direction of meditating on the Bible is application.
Because by applying it, you can live a life of obedience.
So how can we get from the biblical text to the point of application? There is a journey we must take to reach the final destination of application.
It starts with reading the text.
Readers should meditate on the content and meaning of the text they have read and apply it.
How long should we meditate? This varies from person to person, depending on our spiritual condition and the illumination of the Holy Spirit.
Of course, it is better to do this until the text becomes graceful and the application becomes clear.
Meditation is an essential process that brings reading to application.
We cross the bridge with the message we have gained through meditation and arrive at the final destination of application.
--- From “Form and Direction of Meditation”
If those who read, study, and meditate on the Bible do not apply its words, they are merely treating the Bible as one-time knowledge or information.
To refuse to apply it is to go against the purpose for which God gave His Word.
If there is a risk in applying it, you should strive to do it right and not give up.
In fact, those who wish to live by the Word can avoid going down the wrong path if they learn just a little about application.
If we believe that the Bible is interpreted by the illumination of the Holy Spirit, we must also believe that the Holy Spirit will apply it appropriately.
--- From "Why Should We Apply the Bible?"
The demands of the Bible must be applied appropriately to the person's faith, maturity, and circumstances.
This does not mean adjusting the standards of the Bible, but rather that we should apply them in the most optimal way possible in the present situation.
Because not only are the given problems, degrees, and conditions different for each person, but the maturity and circumstances of the meditator also vary greatly, uniform application of the same text is not appropriate.
When God spoke to the Israelites, he took their maturity and circumstances into consideration.
God expected Abraham to obey in faith and gave him commands, but through a long period of training, He applied His words appropriately to each individual according to the amount of faith he had.
--- From "Desirable Applications"
By understanding the context in which the universal theological principles presented in the text were proclaimed, we can discover the meaning they gave to the original readers and the responses they were expected to receive.
At this stage, we must find the intersection between the biblical text and the circumstances of the time.
Next, we need to find similar situations between them and us.
Universal theological principles must be applied to today's situations by crossing the bridge of principleization.
Write down the principle (or principles) that the text is conveying.
As we grasp the theological truths or principles conveyed in the text, we begin to discern principles that transcend time and space, and the gap between the biblical text and the modern world begins to bridge.
The key to application is to put the text into practice in this way.

Publisher's Review
Why are we afraid even though we believe in God?
Facing the reality of the fear that comes every day
A book that helps you have the true courage the Gospel speaks of!
* Attitude toward fear
We feel a multitude of emotions every day, one of which is fear.
We all know the saying, “Be strong and courageous,” but when we face life’s various fears, we often become discouraged and collapse before the wall of reality.
Do we perhaps consider the very act of feeling fear a sin, leading to repeated frustration? We must honestly examine ourselves and renew our understanding of fear within the gospel.
Then you will be able to live a different level of faith than before.
* Now, move forward with new courage!
So how can we overcome the fear God has permitted? Rather than blindly confronting the situation with the mindset that "something will work out," we must first and foremost rediscover what true courage, as God speaks of it, truly means.
At the heart of true courage is the conviction of complete love.
In other words, without the gospel there is no courage.
This book explains the difference between worldly courage and biblical courage, helping us gain a new perspective on suffering and fear.
In this age when Christians need ever-greater courage, if the church reads this book together, it will empower them to live boldly as disciples of Jesus and embark on an amazing journey of faith.
Recommended Readers
- Believers who are in distress or who frequently feel fear
- Church group meetings/discipleship training/new believer education/one-on-one counseling/book reading groups

Reading the Bible that truly brings life
It is completed in 'Apply'!
* A new book by Pastor Yongse Lee, author of "Personal Bible Study"
Since the publication of Personal Bible Study in 2007 (revised edition published in 2018), many readers have benefited from it.
It has been used as a Bible study material by missionary organizations, including seminaries, and has been utilized by many churches across the country for PBS seminars and small group leader training.
In the Korean church, the need and importance of receiving and enjoying the Word not only through the pastor's sermon but also through individual congregational Bible study and meditation (QT) has been growing.
The purpose of our approach to the Bible is to live by its words.
Living by the Word means having your life changed by the Word and acting according to the Word.
Because the Bible was given to us for the purpose of transforming our character and life.
However, it is true that it is difficult to find Christians among believers whose lives have been shaped by the Word and whose whole personality has been transformed.
After years of listening to sermons in church, why do such frustrating things happen? Why are so few people, even preachers who have preached for decades, truly shaped their lives through the Word? This is an inconvenient truth acknowledged by the Korean church.
Pastor Lee Yong-se has deeply sympathized with this problem and has incorporated his concerns into his book, “Meditation and Application.”
There is no doubt that the Bible is the truth that is not only necessary for our salvation but also for forming us into the image of God after salvation.
If so, the problem lies with us, especially with our hearts, attitude, and methods of dealing with the Bible.
The author emphasizes that meditation and application are the most effective ways for Christians to be transformed and live by the Word.
However, meditation and application are not as simple as it may seem.
Because accuracy and appropriateness are required.
Only by knowing the concept and method well can we meditate and apply it safely and richly.
Therefore, this book deals with meditation in Part 1, and deals with the overview and practical application methods in Parts 2 and 3.
When we meditate on and apply the Word correctly, our thoughts and character will change, and when we dedicate ourselves to the Word, our lives will change.
Therefore, we must not only read and hear the Word, but also go so far as to apply the Word.
"Meditation and Application" is the fruit of Pastor Lee Yong-se's 30 years of Bible study, meditation, sermon preparation, and personal application.
This is a practical guide that organizes what I have learned through teaching in the field, not just theories at the desk.
The many guides the author presents are concrete tools that have already been tested by a wide audience of listeners who love the Word.
This book will be an essential guide for Christians who wish to truly transform their own lives and the lives of others through the Word.
