Into the book
One day, while walking down a winding road, I picked up a bundle.

After walking along the winding road for a while, as expected, a greedy tiger suddenly appeared.
I was so startled that I dropped my bundle.
Do you see what's going on now?
Yes, the bundle that fell to the ground was untied.
The stories in the bundle rolled away.
The tiger chased after the story that looked like rice cake.
I too wandered around chasing scattered stories.
I barely managed to get forty back together.
If you are the real owner of the bundle, you will know the story.
How about it, want to take a look?
--- pp.10~11, from “Author’s Note”

The chicken came first and the egg came first.
The chicken came first

like this
Each other first
I love you

we are
Uselessly
Just fighting
--- pp.76~77, from “Who First”

I knew it!
I thought Simcheong would come back to life

I knew it!
I didn't know there would be treasure in the park.

Like a world in a story
I knew it.
--- pp.98~99, from “Life in the World”

Publisher's Review
“I knew the turtle would win, that Simcheong would survive… I knew it would be like the world of fairy tales.”
From old tales to proverbs, idioms, and traditional games
A thrilling counterattack on a familiar story!

"Grandma's Revenge," a collection of illustrated poems that retells old tales with breathtaking twists and turns, is a must-read! While you might think these are old tales, don't let your guard down.
An old woman encounters a tiger on a secluded mountain path! She would be understandably flustered, but instead, she confidently tells the tiger, "If you don't eat me, I'll give you a rice cake."
The woodcutter in “The Golden Axe and the Silver Axe” keeps slipping his hand in the pond and whines, “It’s nice to see you again, mountain spirit.”

“Put the pickled oysters on the hook / Take a look once and take a spoonful / Take a look twice and take two spoonfuls //
I made a fire and roasted it / I felt sorry for the neighbor who was hungry while digging the back alley /
"How lovely is that heart of yours, eating food without smelling it / with just your eyes" (Full text of "Pickled Oysters", p. 18)

The protagonist of "Jaringobi," who has been misunderstood as a miser, may actually be a kind-hearted person.
In this way, author Jeong Jin-ho has hidden moments of brilliant reversal and childlike, innocent, and absurd questions throughout this book.
The child who thought that the proverb 'only rats listen to what you say at night' means 'only rats listen to informal speech' recalled a rat speaking informally 'squeak squeak' and wondered, "Who listens to what I say?", just like our children who are both quirky and cute.
While the puns are fun, the real joy of this poetry collection lies in imagining familiar old tales from a different perspective and expanding upon them.
What thrilling twists are hidden in traditional games like "Kongjwi and Patjwi," "Sun and Moon," "Cowherd and Weaver Girl," and "Dugeop-a Dugeop-a~"? This is a new collection of folk tales, "Grandma's Revenge."

Wit and humor contained in pleasant wordplay,
And the encounter of simple and sensual paintings by artist Jeong Jin-ho!

Author Jeong Jin-ho is a picture book author who won the Bologna Ragazzi Award twice, in 2015 and 2018.
With witty ideas and the author's unique sensibility, he has published picture books full of things to see.
In this collection of poems, Jeong Jin-ho has created a new format for his poetry collection called the illustrated poetry collection, by coherently composing humorous and concise text and illustrations.

“If existing poetry collections are primarily about poetry and supplemented by illustrations, then illustrated poetry collections explore new possibilities of expression and a unique enjoyment of poetry appreciation, with illustrations and text playing almost equal roles.” (Excerpt from ‘Work Commentary’, p. 118)
.
What catches the eye most of all is the form of the poem in which the letters are arranged like a picture.
In “The Great Truth,” a story about a toad blocking a hole in a jar with a broken bottom, you can feel the fresh pleasure of appreciating a poem by arranging letters in the shape of a jar, and in “Follow a Friend,” the magpie bridge is given new names such as “magpie” and “crow,” creating a unique fun of reading the double meaning of “bird” and “letter.”
Also, in the case of the poem “Swing,” the idea of reading the text from bottom to top by focusing on the swing moving from the ground to the sky stands out.
It is also impressive that the margins are used to place simple text and pictures in appropriate places, allowing readers ample room to read, enjoy, imagine, and interpret the poem.
By using only two colors, blue and yellow, and leaving only the essentials, we maximized the fun of 'reading and viewing'.
The wit and humor embedded throughout the text and illustrations further enhance the enjoyment of viewing the book.
Immerse yourself in the joy of reading Jin-ho Jeong's poetry by reading "Grandma's Revenge," a collection of illustrated poems filled with old tales that touch our hearts, sometimes with witty jokes, and sometimes with touching emotions!
