I wish it would rain until the world becomes soft
Description
Book Introduction
Make the green a darker green
Let the yellow become a brighter yellow
A heart that embraces each other as we are
"I Wish It Would Rain Until the World Becomes Soft" is a collection of warm and comforting poems that soothe the hearts of young people living today amidst anxiety and worry. It is a collection of affectionate poems that soaks into the heart and delivers words of comfort.
This collection of poems contains the poet's meticulous attention to detail, carefully observing and understanding the unstable daily lives and complex psychology of teenagers with "eyes as transparent as raindrops" (the poet's words).
Within the confines of school, teenagers live difficult lives, suffering from the pressure of studying that flattens their minds and the competition for ranking that reduces everything to grades, while losing their dreams.
There are many things inside me, but I tend to ignore my individuality and talents and only measure my worth by numbers (grades).
It's like "letting out everything I've been holding in" and "if I sing loudly/a whale will jump out of my mouth" (?The two of us?), but in a reality where nothing goes as planned and nothing moves as they want, teenagers have no choice but to suppress what they want to say.
The poet listens to the frustrated and painful 'hearts' of the youth who are wandering in conflict and wandering with his "pretty ears that want to listen to their hearts" (commentary).
This poetry collection, which “asks about and shows people’s thoughts and feelings in a way different from mathematics,” is “a beautiful book that listens to the tender heart” (commentary).
After reading the entire collection of poems, you will find yourself wanting to love yourself, your family, your friends, and your neighbors more.
This collection of poems is poet Kim Jun-hyeon's first collection of poetry for young people and the forty-first volume of 'Changbi Youth Poetry Series.'

Into the book
Whale whale
When you sing a song
I feel like a whale is going to pop out of my mouth
A whale that had been holding its breath in the sea, bang!
The feeling of my breath rising high into the sky like a fountain
The feeling of building a lighthouse
Let out everything you've been holding in!
Jeongmin stroked my bent back with his fin.
That was much better than the song
Jeongmin and I
Like two dolphins swimming to the ends of the earth
Woof woof woof woof the two of us
It became a song
--- From "The Two of Us"
Black and white may be the color that remains even after all the colors have faded away.
The realm of shadows that has been living on the floor for a long time
I have white hair
Even if they fade like the traces of having read each other for a long time, like the side of a book
The desire to remain in this world
When you sing a song
I feel like a whale is going to pop out of my mouth
A whale that had been holding its breath in the sea, bang!
The feeling of my breath rising high into the sky like a fountain
The feeling of building a lighthouse
Let out everything you've been holding in!

Publisher's Review
A collection of poems that understands the hearts of young people
Poet Kim Jun-hyun, who began his literary career after his poem was selected for the 2013 [Seoul Shinmun] New Year's Literary Contest and has since developed a world of sensuous poetry imbued with philosophical thought, has published a collection of poetry for young adults titled [I Wish It Rained Until the World Became Soft].
Since his debut, the poet has been actively working in the fields of poetry and criticism, winning the Changbi Children's Poetry Division New Writer's Award in 2015, the Munhakdongne Poetry Literature Award Grand Prize in 2017, and the Modern Poetry Criticism Division New Writer's Recommendation Award in 2020.
This collection of poems, published in succession to the poetry collection [Tomato Standard] (Munhakdongne, 2022), contains a meticulous heart that carefully observes and understands the unstable daily lives and complex psychology of teenagers with “eyes as transparent as raindrops” (the poet’s words).
This is a collection of affectionate poems that warmly embrace the hearts of young people living today amidst anxiety and worry, and that penetrate deeply into the heart and convey words of comfort.
This collection of poems is poet Kim Jun-hyeon's first collection of poetry for young people and the forty-first volume of 'Changbi Youth Poetry Series.'

"Mathematics of the Heart": Measuring the Breadth and Depth of the Heart
The poet says, “A person is/the most difficult shape in the world to find the area of” (The Formula for Finding Area).
So how can we fathom the immeasurable heart of a person?
The poet seeks to find the ‘width’ and ‘depth’ of the mind, which “grows and shrinks dozens of times a day” (the formula for calculating width) through “the mathematics of the mind” (Gomyungjae, commentary).
In 'Mathematics of the Mind' there are no formulas, no answers, and no solutions.
It is filled with only love that deeply thinks of people.
As I carefully measure the breadth and depth of my heart with the warmth of love that embraces me “so much that I can’t tell who is who” (? Close Relationship”), before I know it, my “unknown heart” that has “endured in the dark” is “revealed to the world” (? Yellow), and a tender voice whispering “I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you” (? Being Loved) rings in my ears.
“A pinwheel with the words ‘I love you’ written on it spins in the wind that will send me to a completely different world” (? Pinwheel Garden).
The area of a rectangle is length × width
The area of a triangle is base × height ÷ 2
So how do I find my area?
People
It's the most difficult shape to find the area of in the world.
If it's a little bigger
Will I ever find out the formula for calculating my area?
Multiplying the words I couldn't say to anyone
If I share my heart with you
Can you tell?
Dozens of times a day
It increases and decreases
My width

Pretty ears that listen to your heart
It is often said that adolescence is the most shining moment in life.
But the reality is not like that.
Our youth live difficult lives within the confines of school, suffering from the crushing pressure of studying and the competition for ranking that reduces everything to grades, while losing their dreams.
It is a world where “anything must have something special” (Audition) to be chosen, like “a single strand of white hair among countless black hairs.”
There are many things inside me, but I tend to ignore my individuality and talents and only measure my worth by numbers (grades).
It's like "letting out everything I've been holding in" and "if I sing a song/whale will jump out of my mouth" ("The Two of Us"), but in a reality where nothing goes as planned and nothing moves as they want, teenagers have no choice but to suppress what they want to say.
The poet listens to the frustrated and painful 'hearts' of the youth who are wandering in conflict and wandering with his "pretty ears that want to listen to their hearts" (commentary).
Listening to your insides with a stethoscope
It feels like listening to the cries of a cicada on a deep summer night
It felt like hearing the sound of breaking glass
It feels like listening to the sound of rain during the rainy season
It felt like I was hearing the thump thump of footsteps from upstairs.
I feel like I'm being nagged
It feels like listening to a drum beat
In your deepest heart
A child was heard sobbing, holding back tears.
---"Twice on the chest, once on the stomach, once on the back" (page 31)
I will love every aspect of 'me'
The world we live in is made up of many different aspects.
The lives of young people, with their endless possibilities, go without saying.
There is no single right answer in our lives, and each of us shines in a colorful way.
And in a future where we cannot predict what will come out like a roll of the dice, expectations and hopes are bound to sprout.
As we live, we may “fail,” “be bad,” “become bad,” and “be ugly” (?bad), but that is not a mistake or a failure.
So, the poet says, don't be too impatient, and let's "love all of me" ("any part of me") just as I am, even if "I can't get ahead of others/and it's just one step."
To the youth who “walk with all their might, without giving up even a single thing” despite their “difficulties and shortcomings” and who finally “spread their wings” and fly powerfully, we send encouragement by saying, “You are full of wonderful things” (I like that about you).
What people want from me is 6
Throw me into the world and expect me to get a 6
If 1 comes out, alone
Me, blankly staring at the sky without any friends
Is there anyone to love?
I used to think so
I can't get ahead of others
It's just one step away
From the moment I decided to love every aspect of myself
I was okay with people messing with me.
Even if 6 comes out, even if 4 comes out, even if 2 comes out
Sometimes it was good to be alone

Just as when the 'ball' turns over, it becomes 'luck'
The poet has a refined sense of language and is excellent at playing with words.
This collection of poems also stands out for its visual and auditory stimuli and wordplay.
It can be expressed in visual form, such as “If the ball flips over, it’s luck” (“Brick Breaker Game 2”), “If I’m on top of ㅁ, I become someone else” (“On top of ㅁ”), or “A ladybug carrying around / the hardships, the shortcomings, just ● this damn point, the increasingly heavy point” (“I like that about you”), “I know you’re doing well / I know you’re happy / I know you’ll come soon / Two streams of tears flowing” (“How far is it”), “If you speak here with emphasis, this flower will grow” (“Grow Quietly”), “I guess this medicine / listens to the whole story” (“Things the Medicine Listens to”), by exquisitely connecting words or phrases that sound the same, adding to the flavor of the speech.
If you “plant / ㄷ under your chin” (? ㄷ 림기 under your chin”), it becomes ‘hair’, if “a screw sticking out of a chair comes off”, it becomes “the will to live” (? The will of a tree), and in the promise that “even if it’s not black or white / I’ll say good words / from now on” (? There are two inside me”), the words (馬) and (言) come together to add to the fun of reading poetry.

We smell the same
The poet who says, “I hate it when people keep getting sharper” (You Who Sharpen Me) constantly talks about love.
“If you input good words into your mind, you will only say good words and think good thoughts” (?AI-4) and listen “twice to your chest, once to your stomach, once to your back”, sometimes dozens or hundreds of times, to hear your heart breathing “in the deepest part of you” (?twice to your chest, once to your stomach, once to your back).
Even though our bodies are apart, our loving hearts always flow like water, “just as dandelions communicate telepathically with each other” (Walking This Flower Path).
We are “that kind of relationship” (?RH null) because “we can tell without a blood test.”
We, who “have the same scent,” live our lives “getting to know what it feels like to be loved” ("Soap is gradually becoming like a pebble") with a heart that “becomes smooth like a pebble.”
Poets don't speak in clear cuts like mathematical formulas.
