Publisher's Review
A fascinating psychological experiment reveals our disturbing dreams and concerns.
Anna, just turned fifteen, is an ordinary teenager struggling to find her true dream.
Anna happens to be in the psychology lab as part of the development activities department in her second year of middle school.
In addition to Anna, Yong-i, who wants to become a celebrity, Joo-young, who dreams of becoming a psychologist, Jong-chan, who is hard to read but serious and sharp, and Seon-ah, who is confident when it comes to studying, come to visit, and with the addition of Choi Igo, a psychology major, the 'Saturday Psychology Club' is born.
Members of the Saturday Psychology Club will experience famous psychological experiments throughout history that have brought enlightenment to many people, one by one, under the guidance of Professor Choi Igo.
You will learn about the theories of psychology through examples that are easy to come across in everyday life, such as why we keep cramming, why we want to buy products advertised by celebrities, and why it is difficult to say no when others say yes.
Meanwhile, Anna discovers a new side to her friend Yong-i, whom she thought was just a mischievous, unruly brat, and develops feelings for her senior Jong-chan, who exudes a secretive charm.
In this way, Anna explores her own mind psychologically and looks at the social problems surrounding her with new eyes.
From the gambler's fallacy to the placebo effect, real psychology becomes your blood and flesh!
"Saturday Psychology Club" uses the material of psychological experiments and the format of a novel to make psychology accessible and enjoyable for young people.
Author Kim Seo-yoon (text), a former publishing company editor, planned this book together with author Kim Da-myeong (illustration), who is currently working as a counseling psychologist, utilizing their majors and professions.
It is unfortunate that although teenagers are very curious about psychology, the only things they encounter in their daily lives are psychological tests floating around on the internet. So, I organized and wrote this book in a way that shows the most interesting psychological experiments in history that I found while taking psychology classes, so that they can approach psychology as play rather than study.
Each chapter is divided into topics such as 'Irrationality', 'Memory and Study', 'Human Relations', 'Society', 'Senses', and 'Evolution', allowing readers to experience various psychological experiments and theories. In addition, information on major psychologists has been organized for readers with a greater interest in psychology.
And psychological experiments that are difficult for young people to conduct themselves but have historically significant significance are listed as appendices at the end of each chapter.
Additionally, its reliability was enhanced by the review and recommendation of Professor Nam Jong-ho of the Department of Psychology at Catholic University.
The first Changbi Youth Book Award Grand Prize Winner
The first Changbi Youth Book Award, established in 2010, received 22 submissions covering a variety of topics, including modern poetry, youth psychology, essay writing, media reading, and classical music.
The judging panel (Do Jong-hwan, Ahn Gwang-bok, Kim Joo-hwan, Han Ki-ho), comprised of current teachers and experts, selected “Saturday’s Psychology Club” along with “I Came to Play Because It’s Cool” (written by Seol Heun, Changbi Youth Library 1) as the winners of the Grand Prize in the liberal arts category of the Changbi Youth Book Award.
