Russian syntax introduced for the first time in Korea

『History of Russia』 is one of the representative introductory books on Russian history that has been revised for nearly half a century since its first publication in 1963.
It has been adopted as a textbook in many American universities and has been a bestseller in the field of Russian history for decades.
From the 7th edition onwards, a new author participated in the writing, and the newly translated 8th edition is a 1080-page book with expanded content on recent history and new image material.
This book covers the vast history of Russia by period, systematically organizing the political, economic, and cultural history of each period.
It excels in many ways, including its balanced narrative style, in-depth understanding of historical themes, and utilization of numerous original sources, faithfully capturing the dynamic flow of not only past history but also the present.
This book will be the best history book for scholars and students who teach and learn Russian history, and for readers who want to know Russian history.

The central theme of this book
It is impossible to understand world history without knowledge of Russian history.
Russia, which has existed in constant connection with the world, has exerted influence that can change the course of world history during the reigns of Peter the Great and Catherine the Great, the Russian Revolution, and the Cold War.
In addition, it has had close ties to our country, including the Aguan Pacheon Incident, the Russo-Japanese War, the division of North and South Korea, and the Korean War.
This book is an introductory work that comprehensively and systematically covers Russian history, from ancient times to the present, which holds such important meaning for us.
In addition to describing the history of each era, it also allows us to examine the aspects of that time through topics such as religion, education, art, economy, and society.

In this two-volume book, the first volume covers Russia from the early 19th century to the mid-19th century.
It covers the first state to appear in Russian history, Kievan Rus'; Russia during the partition period; the Mongol invasion and domination; the Great Novgorod Principality; the Muscovite State; the Lithuanian-Russian State; Imperial Russia under the rule of monarchs including the first Tsar, Ivan the Terrible; the reign of Peter the Great, a time of progress, absolutist rule, and expansionist wars; the reign of Catherine the Great, which saw the westernization of Russia and the improvement of its international standing; and the first half of the 19th century.

The second volume covers Russia from 1855 to the present day.
The second volume includes an additional introduction, providing chapters that connect modern Russian history with earlier events.
It covers the period from the reign of Alexander II, when the “Great Reform”, represented by the emancipation of the serfs, was carried out, to the reign of Nicholas II, the last Russian Tsar, the Russian Revolution of 1917, Soviet Russia, War Communism and the New Economic Policy, the Stalin era, World War II and the Soviet Union after Stalin, the Gorbachev era and the collapse of the Soviet Union, and post-communist Russia leading to the rise to power of Yeltsin, Putin, and President Medvedev.

The eighth edition of “History of Russia” clearly reflects the authors’ belief that historical writing is not limited to stories of the past, but is dynamically connected to “present-day Russia,” that is, its present state.
There has been a significant increase in coverage of the post-communist period, with more attention paid to various social groups, women, anti-government forces, non-Russians, and the countryside.

The accompanying color reference maps, various maps and photographs, and genealogical charts of rulers, in addition to the faithful text, make this book a richer historical text.
Published by Kkachi Books in the early 1990s, this new edition of "Russian History" has been reissued for the first time in about 20 years. Given the lack of comprehensive introductory books on Russian history in Korea, it will serve as an excellent textbook and useful reference book.
