Publisher's Review
The 17th book in the Cambridge World History series (18 volumes total)

The Cambridge World History Series is a vast world history series in which over 200 scholars from around the world have participated.
The Korean version will be published in 18 volumes.
This book is the 17th and also the third of four volumes that discuss the modern and contemporary period.

Part 1 deals with social change.

In this book, social changes that have not been properly illuminated compared to politics in existing world history are actively reexamined.
In a time of greater migration and immigration than any other period in history, industrialization and urbanization brought about profound changes in social customs around the world.
Traditional family relationships and sexual behavioral customs have also changed in line with new social relations.
The abolition of slavery was one of the epochal changes that divided pre-modern and modern societies, and its repercussions spread throughout the world.

Part 2 examines modern and contemporary cultural changes in detail.

Social change led to cultural change.
Mass production and mass consumption created a new distribution system called the department store, which became the representative place for the commercialization of culture.
Music, which had no physical form, became a mass-consumption commodity when material media such as records were created.
This is also why natural science is discussed along with cultural changes in this book.
Sports and movies are truly modern cultural products that were not seen in pre-modern times.
By examining these topics, we reexamine the changes in the modern and contemporary world from a cultural perspective.
