The destruction of Palestine is the destruction of the Earth.
Description
Book Introduction
What are the similarities between the Palestinian genocide and the climate crisis?
In 1840, the British imperialist army, backed by fossil capital, attacked Palestine.
From its beginnings to the present, it has been through a long history of exploitation and destruction.
Exploring the Roots of the Palestinian Genocide and the Possibility of Liberation
As Israel's inhumane genocide against Palestinians continues unabated, protests and resistance against Israel are rising worldwide, along with solidarity with the people of the blockaded Gaza Strip.
Andreas Malm, a Swedish political ecologist and activist known worldwide for his radical discussions on the climate crisis and resistance to it, has urgently published a pamphlet, The Destruction of Palestine is the Destruction of the Planet, which examines both the violence against Palestinians and the climate crisis we face today.

Into the book
New debris is constantly falling on the heads of Palestinians.
Destruction is a constitutive element of the Palestinian experience.
Because the destruction of Palestine is the essence of the Zionist project.
But unlike 1948 or 1950, the destruction of Palestine this time is driven by a different but interrelated process of destruction.
This is the process of destroying the climate system of this Earth.
--- p.32~33
1840 was the year when the first enthusiasm for what we now know as the Zionist project emerged.
The Zionist project has emerged into the world after years of preparation.
As is well known, Christian Zionism surged in Britain in the late 1830s.
Christian Zionism held the doctrine that Jews must unite and 'reclaim' Palestine.
There the Jews will convert to Christianity, hastening the Second Coming of Christ and heralding the coming of the Last Judgment.
--- p.75
Consider that since taking over leadership from Britain, the United States has consistently led the expansion of global fossil fuel production and consumption, accelerating this expansion even as the destructive power of fossil fuels is becoming increasingly apparent.
Then it might not seem so puzzling that the United States is leading the way in destroying this tiny piece of land nestled between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea.
--- p.129
The destruction in the Gaza Strip, a decades-long settler colonial project, has now reached apocalyptic proportions.
Those who survived the bombing are living in a wasteland.
This is a place where there is no drinkable water, where unexploded ordnance is strewn about, where sewage is dumped untreated, where landfills overflow with garbage, where the soil is polluted, where toxic debris is strewn, and where orchards and fields have been turned into wasteland.
Humans cannot sustain long-term life in a land so polluted.
Here, ecocide and genocide are conflated in a way never before seen.

Publisher's Review
This book is based on a manuscript published on the website of the British publisher Verso and a lecture given at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon. It shows how the British invasion of Acre (Akka in Arabic) in Palestine in 1840 and its aftermath shaped the current world based on fossil capital, and tells the story of how the history of brutal and endless violence and occupation in Palestine has unfolded.
Moreover, it passionately conveys to us how much the invisible violence of fossil capital, which is causing the climate crisis, is similar to the history of Palestine, marked by ruthless destruction, displacement, and ecological genocide, and the violence of the Zionists.
At the same time, it strongly emphasizes solidarity with the Palestinian resistance forces and the legitimacy of their struggle.
In a world where people are exposed to information largely from biased media, there is a risk of easily falling into the trap of a two-sided argument rather than supporting and solidarizing with the Palestinian resistance.
Andreas Malm introduces the struggle of the Palestinian liberation forces and argues that anyone with a spirit of solidarity and leftist values must stand in solidarity with the liberation forces and fight alongside them.
Regarding the common attack that the Palestinian resistance is all wrong because they are terrorists and that the resistance should give up, or the Israeli lobby theory that the United States is compelled to participate in this because it is swayed by the Israeli lobby, I emphasize that we must look at the problem from a broad historical materialist perspective and consider alternatives.
In addition to the lecture, the Korean edition includes a rebuttal by Matan Kaminer, an Israeli leftist and professor who has published a book on Thai migrant workers in Israel, and a rebuttal to activist Ed McNally's Israel lobbying theory, which was published in the American radical internet media outlet Jacobin. The author's rebuttal is also included to provide Korean readers with an understanding of how the related radical debate is progressing.
Reading this book will allow you to reflect on two crises that speak to our times: the climate crisis and the Palestinian crisis.
The book will allow us to rethink the greed of Western fossil capital for the gas fields off the coast of Gaza, and the flow of Israeli and global capital that is pushing the planet to the brink of crisis through such endless mining.
Domestic capital is also participating in the greed for the offshore gas fields of Gaza, and readers can consider the meaning of this climate invasion, the similar attempts to destroy Palestine, and the resistance against it.
This book will help you prepare for resistance to climate justice, as you protest against Israel's genocide, which has left over 58,000 people dead and starved of food, and stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people, demonstrating the endless breakdown of humanity.
