Former Korean Diplomatic Documents: Part 2 (Volume 1)
Description
Book Introduction
A three-dimensional look at modern Korea-Japan relations through exchanged documents between the two countries, 1876-1906.
『Old Korean Diplomatic Documents』 is a document held by Kyujanggak and consists of 30 volumes including 8 appendix volumes, consisting of official documents exchanged between Joseon (Korean Empire) and the great powers (Qing Dynasty, Japan, United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Russia, France, etc.) from 1876 to 1910.
The Il-an (日案) is a collection of diplomatic documents with Japan from 1876 to 1905, consisting of volumes 1-7.
『Il-an (日案)』 covers the period from 1876, when modern treaty relations between Korea and Japan were established, to early 1906, when Korea's diplomatic rights were completely taken away by Japan.
In that respect, this collection of materials is the most three-dimensional source of information on modern Korea-Japan relations.
In particular, it contains the arrest and repatriation request of Kim Ok-gyun, the Southeast Islands Development Commissioner, the riot by Japanese smugglers on Ulleungdo, the Banggokryeong Incident in Hamgyeongdo, the fishing issues after the Japan-Korea Fisheries Expedition, the Japanese fishing issue on Jeju Island, the Japanese warships' exploration of the Joseon coastal waters, and the Japanese army's invasion of Gyeongbokgung Palace in 1894 ('Joseon Royal Palace Raid Incident').
