The clothing of the Joseon Dynasty is not simply a trend of the times; it is a valuable historical heritage that reflects the cultural trends and values ​​of that society.
In particular, the uniquely shaped dangui was not just a beautiful garment, but a special symbol that showed women's status and role, as well as the standards of beauty and ethics pursued by society.
Dangui, with its unique shape and style, can be said to be the most Korean and original clothing among Joseon women's clothing.
This catalogue presents the history of the dangui, a type of women's ceremonial attire from the Joseon Dynasty from the 1500s to the 1900s, along with the dangui of Princess Deokon, a representative artifact of the museum and a national folk cultural heritage.
I also wanted to capture the aesthetic sensibility and historical significance contained within it.
The Joseon Dynasty experienced various changes and events over a long period of time, and accordingly, women's clothing also changed to suit the times.
The style of the party gradually evolved into a more sophisticated and refined form, reflecting the political and social background of the time. Each design, color, and decorative element reflected the social status and aesthetic sense of women of the time.


This catalogue was planned with the intention of organizing the evolution of dangui, focusing on artifacts held in the Seok Ju-seon Memorial Museum at Dankook University, and highlighting how women of each era expressed dangui with their own unique aesthetic.
Through this, we will be able to revisit the profound history and aesthetics of traditional clothing and rediscover the spirit of women's lives and style contained within it.
This publication is the result of the long-standing efforts of the Seok Ju-seon Memorial Museum at Dankook University, which has been dedicated to the study of traditional clothing for over 40 years, and is expected to greatly contribute to the development and popularization of research on the history of Korean traditional clothing.
