Description
Book Introduction
Obbypo's Create's Space series is a 'lifestyle travel book' that introduces spaces curated by creators through their own perspectives while staying in a city and suggests a differentiated travel style.
Following 『En SPAIN』 by fashion creators and 『Barcelona』 by living creators, this 『mein Berlin』 is ‘the Berlin of artists.’
The author chose the profession of 'painter' for the freedom to travel at any time, and says that he is most excited and inspired by unfamiliar scenery while traveling.
The first place she chose after the pandemic was Berlin, Germany.
The author says that Berlin is a great place to visit with someone, but it is also a place where you won't feel lonely traveling alone, unlike any other European city.
It's common to see people enjoying time alone in Berlin's cafes, pubs, and restaurants, and they say they feel a strange sense of connection and leisure.
The city is not very large, making it perfect for a leisurely stroll or a bike ride. High-quality graffiti art can also be found throughout the city.
This place, the birthplace of the Bauhaus, hosts a large-scale contemporary art biennale every three years, transforming the entire city into a gigantic modern art museum, teeming with diverse art and freedom.
The author rents a house in the heart of Berlin and stays there for a month. On weekdays, he takes a leisurely stroll around the house, stopping at charming cafes, local restaurants, independent bookstores, vintage shops, select shops, and art galleries.
On weekends, I visit flea markets and book special accommodations that were on my bucket list to relax and enjoy a 'trip within a trip'.
I shop for necessities at the local drugstore, do some grocery shopping and cook for myself, go to a performance drawn by a poster I found on the street, and sometimes get invited to the studio of an artist I happen to be friends with.
Over the course of a month, I will slowly experience and feel like a local.
Although it is a journey based on intuition without any specific plan, the book is filled with special places discovered by the author who has a special love for space.
For those with similar tastes, it will provide useful information, and for those who need a little break from their daily lives, simply turning the pages will provide fresh stimulation.

Into the book
A few years ago, I had a brief stay in Berlin, less than a week.
Since I usually enjoy traveling to a city for two weeks to a month, Berlin was a city that left a lasting impression.
But even after that, I spent a long time missing Berlin.
It seems that this is not just because of the short time.
Berlin was a city that was frugal but not shabby, and luxurious but not overly luxurious, and it was a great inspiration to me, who lived by the motto, "If you don't have a sword, you don't have to worry about anything."
That first impression had become almost certain by the end of the trip.
----From "Prologue"
For some, travel can be about 'food', 'shopping', or 'history'.
But for me, travel is ‘space.’
(Omitted) So I am always curious about what kind of space other people, especially people from other countries, live in.
When I travel, I often carefully observe how space and design are used differently depending on the characteristics of each city.
I think discovering these differences is an experience no less exciting than exploring a historical site.
---From "Prologue"
As someone with a passion for 'space', I had many hotels and Airbnbs in Berlin that I wanted to check out.
But even if it was the bare minimum, it was difficult to carry a month's worth of luggage and check in and out frequently here and there.
So I decided.
Let's rent a standard Airbnb for a month and use it as a base camp.
So, it's 'our house' for a month.
And about once a week, I decided to choose one of the Airbnbs or hotels I've been wanting to visit and visit it like a staycation.
It's a great choice for someone like me, as I can check in lightly and fully enjoy the new space!
--- p.11
Berlin is one of the best cities I've ever been to for solo travel.
Of course, there are many people who sit around in groups of three or five and spend time together, but there are also many people who eat or drink coffee alone.
I don't know if it's because of my mood, but neither the person I'm with nor the person I'm alone with seem to have much interest in anything outside of their own gaze.
It is an image of someone who is very focused on something within their own time.
(Omitted) Even when traveling alone, I feel free and carefree in Berlin rather than lonely.
--- p.57
I tend to feel a sense of liberation when I travel to unfamiliar places, especially places with different ethnicities.
In Korea, I don't really care about what others think, but it's true that I do care and am somewhat concerned about what others think.
But when I travel, I often feel like I've become a semi-transparent person.
Roman also said something similar, saying that people live there.
When asked if he was satisfied with his work in Berlin, he replied that he felt much freer than in Russia.
--- p.281
On our last day in Berlin, we took out all the leftover ingredients from the fridge and carefully prepared a table just for the two of us.
The 30-day trip, my first in three years since the COVID-19 outbreak, felt like a hearty and delicious meal, a harmonious blend of excitement, exhaustion, sweet, bitter, and spicy flavors.
Just as salt sometimes enhances sweetness more than sugar, even the tough moments may have made this trip more dramatic and meaningful.

Publisher's Review
Artist Kelly Park's Month-Long Journey in Berlin
A city that is perfect alone, but even more enriching together.
The whole city is like a giant modern art museum.
Where art and freedom thrive
How are good taste and space created?
How do sensory people relax and what inspires them?
Have you ever thought this while researching travel information? Instead of the usual platitudes about tourist attractions or popular restaurants, it would be nice if a discerning friend with similar tastes could recommend a secret spot known only to locals.
How do sensory people relax and what inspires them?'
Obbypo's Create's Space series is a 'lifestyle travel book' that introduces spaces curated by creators through their own perspectives while staying in a city, and suggests differentiated tastes and travel styles.
Following 「En SPAIN」, which depicted Spain through the eyes of fashion creators, and 「Barcelona」, which captured the special perspectives of living creators, this 「mein Berlin」 is the Berlin of artists.
Artist Kelly Park's first travel destination in three years since the pandemic began.
The author of the book, artist Kelly Park, chose the profession of 'artist', which has fewer constraints of time and space, for the freedom to go anywhere at any time.
I have a special affection for the space I live in and I am very interested in interior design, so I often change the furniture arrangement and interior design in my home.
It is said that even while traveling, he carefully observes the unique spaces and designs of each city.
The author says that since he turned thirty, he has been constantly contemplating the most important things in his life, and has realized that the unfamiliar places he encounters while traveling are what excite him the most and inspire his work.
So the past three years, when I couldn't travel, were more difficult than ever.
Why was Berlin the first place the author decided to leave after the COVID-19 pandemic? He says Berlin, a place he briefly visited a few years ago, has remained etched in his mind for a long time, and it wasn't just because of the short time he spent there.
It is said that this was because his first impression of the city was that it was 'simple but not shabby, and splendid but not extravagant.'
And this feeling, it is said, had turned into almost certainty by the end of this trip.

A place where colorful art and freedom thrive
In Berlin, it is not uncommon to see people spending time alone in cafes or pubs.
The author feels a sense of camaraderie and freedom among strangers, and recommends it as a place where solo travel is less lonely than any other European city.
Of course, it is also a great place to travel together.
Because the city is not large, it is a good place to take a leisurely walk or use a kickboard or bicycle.
You can also find high-quality graffiti works everywhere.
Berlin, the birthplace of the Bauhaus, hosts a large-scale contemporary art biennale every three years, transforming the entire city into a vast modern art museum, teeming with diverse art and freedom.
Stay, enjoy and relax like a real local!
The author's unique travel style is also impressive in this book.
I rent a reasonably priced house within walking distance of most places, and on weekdays, I take a leisurely stroll around the house and enjoy cafes, local restaurants, independent bookstores, select shops, and art galleries.
And on weekends, I visit flea markets that are only open during that period, and I book a hotel that was on my bucket list and enjoy a staycation and relax.
Staying in one place means you can't experience a variety of spaces, and moving frequently can be a hassle, so she's killing two birds with one stone.
I shop for necessities at the local drugstore, do some grocery shopping and cook for myself, and even get invited to the studio of an artist I happen to be friends with.
Over the course of a month, I will slowly experience and feel like a local.
Although it is a journey based on intuition without any specific plan, the book is filled with unique and special places discovered by the author.
For those with similar tastes, it will be useful information, and for those who need a little break from their daily lives, just turning the pages will provide fresh stimulation.
