Walking through Korea
Description
Book Introduction
You can feel the beauty of our land through emotional stories and photos.
"Walking the Republic of Korea," featuring 45 gem-like trails along the Korea Ring Road, has been published.
The Korea Trail, a 4,500km long-distance walking trail connecting the east coast, west coast, south coast, and border areas of Korea, was completed on September 23rd.
This walking trail, which is also called the Korean version of the Camino de Santiago, is a world-class tourist attraction that can compete with famous walking trails overseas and boasts a length that is about six times longer than the Camino de Santiago in Spain (approximately 800 km).
The Korea Trail is a representative travel route in South Korea that challenges hikers and allows them to experience the beauty of our country.
"Walking Korea - A Complete Guide to the 45 Trails of the Korea Trail" is a book designed to help even those unfamiliar with walking along the Korea Trail easily and familiarly begin the journey.
To promote the value of the Korea Trail and the history and culture along the way, we have selected 45 of the most attractive courses among the 284 courses and introduced them in a friendly and fun way.
The authors explored each of the 45 courses step by step, capturing the beautiful nature, honest stories of the people, and the rich history and culture of each region through delicious and emotional writing and stunning photographs.
Walking through this book brings the joy of rediscovering the Republic of Korea.
Even if it's not a grand love of country, I think that when you set out on a journey, you'll start to see things you've never seen before and come to appreciate the preciousness of your own land.
Reading the text in this book will help you discover the joy of walking and reaffirm the beauty of the Republic of Korea.
There is life on the road.
What if we looked back and wondered if we had been running too fast on the road of life and thus neglecting the path we truly needed to walk?
Let's stand on the Korea Trail and walk slowly, one step at a time.
The slow pace of a traveler, free from speed and competition, will reveal how beautiful our land and country are and how many stories they hold.

If you walk through the green forest and climb Baekdudaegan,
Into the book
Flowers bloomed on the sea.
It is a stone flower created by lava eruption.
As you walk along the Wave Sound Road in Gyeongju, you will see basalt rocks standing like pillars or spread out like fans against the backdrop of the blue East Sea.
This natural wonder, like a flower blooming in the East Sea, captivates the hearts of those who see it.
The 10th Haeparang Trail, which offers a view of the East Coast's beautiful Mongdol Beach and columnar joints, is a delight to the eyes and ears thanks to the sound of rolling pebbles and the natural environment.
--- From "Haeparang-gil Course 10: Into the breathtaking scenery of Mongdol Beach and columnar joints"
Meet Im and play by throwing lotus seeds into the water
I was embarrassed for half a day, wondering if anyone saw me.
This is a poem called “Chaeyongok” by Heo Nanseolheon.
Her poetry, which lingers in Gyeongpo Lake, blooms like a thick fragrance over the lotus fields.
I stroke the unripe lotus flower that sticks its head out between the lotus flowers.
The pine forest that begins at Anmok Beach continues to Gyeongpo Beach.
The black pine trees, called sea pine, filter out waves and sandstorms, and the inland pine forests embrace the culture created by people.
Gyeongpo Lake, which nurtured Shin Saimdang's art and Yulgok's scholarship, is being revived as a hub for eco-tourism with the restoration of the prickly lotus.
We stop by the reed-covered Sunpo Wetland and meet the Sunchae that was served on the table.
--- From "Haeparang-gil Course 39: The Wind Passing Through the Pine Forest is Born as Poetry"
Jangseungpo Post Office, located in front of the beach, also appears in Jeong Ho-seung's poem "Embrace."
In the poem, Jangseungpo is depicted as a romantic place where fishing boats exchange love letters and give out love letters instead of boarding passes.
Here in Jangseungpo, cruise ships bound for Oedo and Jisimdo, Geoje's representative islands, depart. Thinking of those lovely islands, the expression "giving out love letters instead of boarding passes" naturally resonates with me.
--- From "Namparang-gil Course 20: Scenery that makes you want to write a love letter to someone you miss"
A boat is circling the river at high speed.
It's a boat that catches clams.
Scrape the river and scoop up the clams on the riverbed.
Nowadays, the work of digging the riverbed is mainly done by boat, but in the past, people would go into the river and scrape the riverbed with a tool called a 'georaengi'.
This is called traditional hand fishing.
It was hard work, but it was the fate of the people living along the river.
To teach children and build families, they had to go into the river.
When I think of Jaecheop, there are old memories that come to mind.
When I heard the sound of “Jaecheopguk saiso, jaecheopguk” coming from the alley in the early morning, my mother would leave the front door.
Especially on the day before, when my father was drunk, it was always the same.
--- From "Namparang-gil Course 48: Flowing leisurely along the Seomjin River and meeting the sea"
Mokpo is a city of romance and art, and a treasure trove of modern cultural heritage.
Walking through Mokpo is a time to soak in the sunset fragrance of a port rich in stories.
The large and small islands scattered across the sea off Mokpo are particularly poignant.
The road to Yudalsan Sunset Trail passes through the old city center.
Mokpo's history of exploitation during the Japanese colonial period, resistance by citizens, and modernization over 120 years ago is preserved intact in the heart of the city.
As I was getting a little tired from the hot midday sun, a yellow arrow pointing to the 'House Full of Happiness' appeared.
Nice to meet you.
This place, which I have visited once before, is a 120-year-old Japanese-style house cafe.
Drinking tea in this classic yet romantic cafe will give you a sense of happiness that transcends time and space.
--- From "Seohaerang-gil Course 18, 'Romance and Art, Into Modern History'"
Seohaerangil Course 27 is a walking path that starts from Taepyeong Salt Farm, passes through Jeungdo Tidal Flat Ecological Park and Jjangdungeo Bridge, and ends at Jeungdo-myeon Office.
This road winds around the vast sea, tidal flats, and fields of Jeungdo.
A world that is pure and innocent without any roughness, no matter how far you walk, nothing catches your eye.
Even the wetlands, which account for 13% of our country's tidal flats, are low, flat, and quiet.
I keep getting choked up by that dense silence.
Jeungdo Island achieved the first ecological grand slam by being designated as Asia's first slow city, UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and Ramsar Wetland.
Time passes slowly on the distant island of Jeungdo.
--- From "Seohaerangil Course 27, 'Time in Jeungdo flows slowly and quietly'"
Winter in Cheorwon is a paradise for migratory birds.
Walking through the winter fields of Cheorwon, with the cold wind biting your nose, you'll find yourself in delightful company with cranes, red-crowned cranes, and white-fronted geese. Passing through the fields in front of the DMZ Crane Peace Town, I encountered a massive flock of geese, numbering in the thousands.
The sight of a flock of geese flying in the sky, startled by the sound of a traveler's footsteps, is so majestic and overwhelming.
Cheorwon's migratory birds are undoubtedly winter visitors.
Migratory birds fly leisurely toward the north, but when will the peaceful spring come to the cold snow-covered mountains?
--- From "DMZ Peace Trail Course 15: Migratory Birds Leisurely Flying Over the Demilitarized Zone"
The clear stream of water originating from Geumgangsan Mountain meanders its way into Yanggu.
The water flowing through the valley becomes a waterfall and falls, creating a deep pool.
People gave this place the name Dutayeon.
Dutayeon is also a habitat for the trout, which lives only in cold, clean water.
Hayakyo intersection.
This is where people's paths diverge and waterways merge.
Along the stream that carries news of Geumgangsan, flower petals flow in spring and maple leaves float in autumn.
The milestone has wings that say ‘Road to Geumgangsan’.
They said that if you go about 30km on this road, you will reach Jangansa Temple in Geumgangsan.
When will I be able to walk the road to Geumgangsan?
