Publisher's Review
The Camino de Santiago pilgrimage was introduced on a TV program some time ago.
The Camino de Santiago, a pilgrimage route said to have originated from the journey of Saint Jacob, who aspired to become the patron saint of Spain, has become a world-famous tourist attraction visited by countless people from all over the world.
In our country, too, a variety of colorful old roads that had been forgotten are being rediscovered all over the country and are beckoning us with names such as Dulle-gil, Olle-gil, Nubigil, Jarak-gil, and Galmae-gil.
We live in a blessed land where we can encounter old roads and trails nearby whenever we want.
Walking along the old path is a way to see our beautiful mountains and rivers, a way to look back on history and legends through time, a way to meet great men and saints, a way to follow in the footsteps of martyrs, a way to encounter one's inner self, and a path of meditation.
Shanghai, a megacity with a population of over 25 million, has been under lockdown for over a month due to COVID-19 quarantine measures.
I have compiled into a book the facts and impressions I have personally seen, heard, and felt while walking the Seoul Circular Road, Hanyangdoseong Sunseong Road, Gyeonggi Old Road_Yeongnam Road, and Seongnam Nubigil Road, which began with my life in a prison without bars, with no end in sight.
I would like to express my special gratitude to my two friends, Jun-ho and Gi-man, who shared a warm friendship while walking along our beautiful old roads, and to the nameless people who passed me by on the road or exchanged brief conversations, offering me concessions and small considerations.
The road is like a musical instrument.
A flute made by drilling a hole in a piece of bamboo is nothing more than a single piece of wood, but when a person blows air into it, it becomes a being that brings joy with a beautiful sound.
The world and people can only know their true nature when they sell themselves, whether it be through footwork or alcohol.
Let's pack a small backpack and hit the road.
As we walk down the road, the road will be like a magic flute, offering a small comfort to our weary lives with its colorful and beautiful music.
