Commentary: Where the Golden Lazy Cries
How could I ever forget that place, even in my dreams?
Poet Jeong Ji-yong's 'Nostalgia' is widely known as a song, and is a poem that people sing when they miss their hometown that they hold dear in their hearts.
When you leave your hometown and live there, you often create your own hometown based on where you settle down.
Even though we live our lives busy and forget about our hometown, at some point, when an inexplicable longing wells up from deep within our hearts, the place that comes to mind is our hometown where we used to play as children.
When I think about it now, I am truly grateful that the place where I used to play carelessly as a child was the Dolmen, a World Heritage Site, and the place where I went to play during my school days was Unjusa Temple.
Hwasun, a land where traditions are alive and nature, culture, and history created by God, is a treasure trove of cultural heritage, including the World Heritage Sites Dolmen, dinosaur footprint fossils, Seryangji Pond selected by CNN, Hwasun Red Cliffs with their winding beauty, numerous pavilions located in scenic spots, temples with long history, and natural wonders and historical sites that contain the beauty of the four seasons.
Hwasun, located in the center of Jeolla Province, has beautiful scenery as more than 70% of its area is mountainous, and each of the three rivers, Jiseokcheon, Hwasuncheon, and Dongbokcheon, has created its own unique culture.
Because there are many high and low mountains, the natural scenery is spectacular, and pavilions were often built in places with such beautiful scenery that it was called the land of pavilions.
With the presence of Unjusa Temple and Ssangbongsa Temple, which are temples with a thousand Buddhas and a thousand pagodas, and the dolmen being designated as a World Cultural Heritage Site and the discovery of dinosaur footprint fossils, the number of visitors coming to Hwasun for field trips has increased.
Because it is a remote area with many mountains and inconvenient transportation, it was also a place of exile during the Joseon Dynasty.
This remote area, rarely visited by humans, has preserved its natural beauty, but with the development of transportation and industry, it is now transforming into a tourist destination.
As I look around Hwasun, I am struck by the sheer number of cultural assets, scenic beauty, history, and traditions that have remained in this small city.
Traces of dinosaurs, dolmens scattered across hills, red cliffs embroidered like folding screens on rocky cliffs, a thousand Buddhas and a thousand Buddha pagodas and reclining Buddhas, hot springs that relieve fatigue, and traditional markets where people are bustling with bargaining – these are all places you can find when you go to Hwasun.
Now, let's go on a healing trip to Hwasun.
