Into the book
After a late lunch, it's time to hit the streets again.
Exit the alley and take the road to the right.
It's the valley behind the fortress we climbed up earlier.
If you go a little further, you will come across the Archeological-Ethnographic Museum.
Even from the side of the road, you can see a garden with Qvevri, jars used to store wine in the old days, and cart wheels.
If you continue along this road past the museum and turn right, you will come to a waterfall.
On either side of the stream flowing from the waterfall are old red brick embankments with arched holes, and on top of these embankments are houses and a road.
On the right side of the road following me is a striking building with mosaics: the Tbilisi Central Mosque.
You can see the remains of the old city walls, and old buildings made of red bricks are also noticeable.

Looking up to the right, you can see the Narikala Fortress on the cliff above the houses.
This road is where Tbilisi's history comes to life.
As you follow me inside, on the left you will see a large old building with a round dome roof. It is an old bathhouse that uses hot spring water rich in sulfur and minerals.
These are bathhouses that use the hot spring water discovered by King Gorgasali, as mentioned earlier.
These bathhouses are built in the Islamic style with dome-shaped roofs and are where you can enjoy a Turkish sauna.
The dome-shaped roofs, usually built in the 18th century, function as ventilation holes.
Alexander Dumas, who visited here, said, “Aying~.
He is said to have lamented, “Why don’t Paris have hot springs like Tbilisi?”

There is also a theory that the Russian poet Pushkin also enjoyed the hot springs here.
As if to prove this, the signboard of a hot spring bears the words, “I have never seen a better hot spring in my lifetime,” along with Pushkin’s signature.
I don't know if it's true, but...
Perhaps, if Pushkin had visited Onyang Hot Springs or Yuseong Hot Springs, this phrase might not have remained here, but might have been hung in Onyang Hot Springs or Yuseong Hot Springs.
If Duma had also been to Onyang Hot Springs or Yuseong Hot Springs, he would have lamented, “Why aren’t there places like Onyang Hot Springs or Yuseong Hot Springs in Paris?”
It's such a shame! I want to say something.

“What you know is not everything in this world!”
People live with the limitation that they only know what they have seen, felt, and experienced.
This is that person's universe, and that person lives only in it.
That's why travel is necessary.
To break out of the Afrasax egg that Hesse speaks of! This bathhouse is still in use today.
The price is usually quite expensive, around 50 lari (25,000 won).
But later I found out that this price was for one room.
If you continue along the stream, you will come across a lock bridge.
The bridge that crosses me is filled with many golden locks.
Perhaps someone must have spread a rumor that if you make a promise of love and put a lock on it, your love will last forever.
Perhaps it was planned by a locksmith who does business in this area.
Many lovers, fooled by these rumors, would have made a vow of love and locked their doors like this.

On the right cliff, a house built on top of pillars leaning against the cliff is noticeable.
It's probably a house without grandchildren.
If you jump on that veranda, it will just collapse… … .
Just a short distance from this lock bridge is the 40m high Sulphur Falls.
It's not a particularly impressive waterfall, but it's worth noting that it's located just a short walk from this old street, where Tbilisi's history breathes.

Publisher's Review
My trip to the countries of the Caucasus Mountains, Georgia and Armenia, lasted exactly one month, from October 24 to November 23, 2018.
Originally, I planned to travel to the so-called three Caucasus countries, including Azerbaijan, during this one month, but due to the visa requirement for entry into Azerbaijan, I ended up only traveling to Georgia and Armenia.
The itinerary covers Tbilisi, Kazbegi, Shuamta, Gremi, Kvareli, Sighnaghi, Borjomi, Akhaltsikhe, Vardzia, Batumi, Zugdidi, Mestia, and Ushguli in Georgia, then travels to Yerevan, Khor Virap, Sevan, Dilijan, Gosh, Echmiadzin, Garni, and Ashtarak in Armenia, and then returns to Tbilisi, traveling to Tbilisi City, Mtskheta, Gareja, Norio, Tsalka, and Chiatura in Georgia.
The records were so extensive that they had to be divided into three volumes.

Soon, 『In Search of the Treasures of the Caucasus 1』 is a record of my experiences while traveling through the Kakheti region, including Tbilisi, Shuamta, Telavi, Gremi, Nekresi, Kvareli, Sighnaghi, and Bodbe in Georgia, as well as the Ananuri, Gudauri, and Kazbegi regions, as well as the Borjomi, Akhaltsikhe, and Vardzia regions.
『In Search of the Treasures of the Caucasus 2』 is the story of traveling to Batumi, Zugdidi, Mestia, Ushguli, etc., then returning to Tbilisi, then crossing over to Armenia, settling in Yerevan, and visiting Khor Virap, Lake Sevan, Dilijan, Gosh, etc.
『In Search of Treasures of the Caucasus 3』 is about visiting Echmiadzin, Ashtarak, Garni, and Yerevan in Armenia, and then returning to Georgia to visit Tbilisi, Mtskheta, Norio, Gareja, Tsalka, and Chiatura.

Here is a brief introduction to the contents of this book, “In Search of the Treasures of the Caucasus 1”:
It is a well-known fact that Georgia is a great country to travel to.
The climate is good, the natural scenery is beautiful, the food is good, transportation and hotel costs are cheap, and on top of that, our country's passports are visa-free 365 days a year.
Tbilisi, Georgia is a city you really want to stay in.
Here, you can find old European-style cities, modernized artistic buildings, delicious food, delicious wine, and delicious beer.
Staying here and leisurely sightseeing around the area is also a good idea.
For example, you can visit nearby cities such as Kazbegi, Mtskheta, Sighnaghi, Gareja, Gori, Chiatura, Kudaisi, and Borjomi.

These cities each offer their own unique attractions.
The main attractions include the snow-capped mountains of Kazbegi and Gudauri, the Gergeti Cathedral on top of Mount Kazbegi, the magnificent scenery of Sighnaghi, the ancient churches and ruins of Kudaisi, the springs of Borjomi, the castle of Akhaltikhe, and the cave city of Vardzia.
But the most memorable of these is definitely Kazbegi.
On the way to Kazbegi, you will pass by the Jinvali reservoir and the ancient Ananuri fortress, but even more unforgettable is the Gudauri lookout point with its high snow-capped mountains and deep valleys.
It is the best scenery that the Caucasus has created.

This is a must-visit place, as it even features the Greek myth of Prometheus being imprisoned on Mount Kazbegi for 3,000 years, where he was eaten by eagles for giving fire to humans.
It can be said with certainty that “if you haven’t seen Kazbegi, you haven’t seen Georgia.”
Also, the plains of Kakheti and the hilltop city of Sighnaghi are must-sees.
Signagi, known as the 'City of Love', is a pretty city on a hill.
From here, I would also recommend watching the sunset while gazing at the Kakheti plains and enjoying a glass of local wine.
Of course, there are many things to see in the Kakheti region, such as the Shuamta Monastery, the Gremi Church, the Telavi Fortress, the Nekresi Monastery, and the Bodbe Monastery, so it would be nice to stay in Sighnaghi for a day and find some lost romance.

Meanwhile, in the Borjomi region, not only are there famous springs, but the castle of Akhaltsikhe and the cave city of Vardzia are also memorable.
Georgia has a lot to talk about.
There are many places related to ancient Greek mythology in the mountains of the Caucasus and cities along the Black Sea coast, so it is very interesting to tour while reflecting on these stories.
Also, as can be seen from the fact that Georgia is a devout and ancient Christian country named after a Georgian saint, there are many stories related to Christianity and many ancient church ruins.
All the things I have just talked about are treasures of the Caucasus.
Why not explore the treasures of the Caucasus? I hope this book will help you embark on your journey to discover the treasures of the Caucasus.
