Book Introduction
I held the hand of my sixteen-year-old son, who was surfing during the storms of adolescence, and the hand of my six-year-old daughter, who was born late in life, and I set off on a backpacking trip to Latin America, carrying a backpack that came up to my head.
Starting in São Paulo, Brazil, I traveled counterclockwise through 37 cities in 10 Latin American countries for 4.5 months, taking in the beautiful nature of the vast continent that embraces the Andes and bringing home the stories of the people who live there.
On a trip to the other side of the world to show their children a wider world, their teenage son helped his flustered mother navigate the journey, while their curious young daughter explored the world with sparkling eyes.
I hope our travel story can inspire someone to take on a challenge.
