『Structure of this book』
(1) Warm-Up & Introducing the Topic
There are three questions to get you thinking about the topic of discussion, as well as a brief passage that provides some background information about the topic.
You can draw on your own experiences and simple background knowledge about the topic you are about to study.
(2) Learning about the Topic
For each unit, a topic for discussion is presented, and the pros and cons are presented in a paragraph of approximately 200 to 260 characters.
Learners read the passage and find two supporting arguments under each pro and con position.
(3) Vocabulary Check & Comprehension Questions
It contains questions that ask you to fill in the blanks of five vocabulary words from the passage and four multiple-choice questions related to the content of the passage.
You can check whether you have understood the content of the passage well by taking a simple reading comprehension test.
(4) Building Arguments
This is a learning corner that helps you understand the concepts step by step with four multiple-choice questions: a main argument that expresses your opinion for or against a topic, a specific reasoning behind it (supporting argument), an explanation and example to support the argument (supporting example), and an opinion that can refute the other party's opinion (counterargument).
(5) Opinion Examples
Male and female students each express their opinions for or against a topic.
Read this short passage and practice filling in two blanks in a sentence that summarizes each opinion using words from the passage.
This will help you practice grasping the main points of the other person's opinion.
(6) Organizing Supporting Arguments
In this corner, a total of four specific supporting arguments are presented in boxes.
Find these four sentences that fit the corresponding claim (Main Argument) and write your own sentences.
