Will our children, still infants, be able to adapt well to elementary school? A book has been published for parents who are unsure of what to prepare for their children's elementary school entrance.
This book, written by a couple who are parents of two children and current elementary school teachers, organizes the information and processes that parents need to know before entering elementary school by period (in D-Day order).
It also contains information on what level of Korean language knowledge our children should have, what level of math ability they should have, and how to choose a school.

Information about not only before but also after admission has been carefully organized.
It also includes information on what children learn and grow in elementary school, the elementary school year-round events, creating a routine for children to get to and from school, and what to do if your child has difficulty adjusting to school.
Additionally, we provide friendly guidance through Q&A, as if consulting with the homeroom teacher, on how to deal with various problems that parents may encounter in elementary school, which is the most concerning to parents.

Into the book
Going to kindergarten is going to kindergarten, going to school is going to school.
The 'won' in 'deungwon' is a Chinese character that means a garden or yard.
Can you imagine children freely running around in the garden? On the other hand, the "gyo" in "school" refers to an organization or specialized institution that provides education.
This means that children are now starting to engage in activities where there are real rules.
--- p.18

There are cases where children are pressured to master Korean before entering elementary school, leading to excessive private tutoring.
However, since each child learns Hangul at a different pace, there is no need to stress your child out by insisting that he or she must learn Hangul before entering school.
On the other hand, it is not a good idea to completely ignore Korean study with the mindset of, "They teach you all the Korean at school, so why bother studying it at home?"
Because Hangul is a language, learning it at school alone is not enough.
Even at home, you should continuously be exposed to Korean and study it in advance.
--- p.32

What is the most difficult and challenging subject for middle and high school students in Korea? I'd say it's definitely math.
Some students love math, but the reason they are considered special is paradoxically because math is such a difficult and demanding subject.
Mathematics is a step-by-step, advanced subject.
If you don't know addition, you can't understand multiplication, and if you don't know subtraction, you can't understand division.
You must understand fractions to understand decimals, and you must understand the first digit of a decimal to understand the second digit.
For this reason, math should be learned step by step, like climbing stairs, starting from elementary school.
Moreover, the reason why math is important to first graders is because it is the starting point of a long 12-year journey that runs from first grade to third grade of high school.
--- p.42

As the term 'compulsory education' suggests, sending children to elementary school is not a choice but a legal obligation.
However, as parents, it is concerning to try to fit children with different physical and emotional characteristics into the framework of public education.
Before worrying about whether your child will succeed in school, why not consider finding the right school for them? Korea offers a variety of elementary schools, and many families choose a school that best suits their child's educational needs and the child's unique characteristics.
In this chapter, we will explore the various types of elementary schools in our country and examine the characteristics and educational programs of each school.
--- p.52

If you are planning to enroll in a general public elementary school, most local community centers will mail out school admission notices to families with children about to enter elementary school around the end of November or December.
If you have not received it, you can go to the local community center and ask for a school enrollment notice.
And each school specifies an admission registration period.
At this time, the child and guardian visit the school in person to register for admission.
