Into the book
ABA is a comprehensive program that teaches skills in all areas, from language and cognition to social skills and even daily life tasks like getting dressed and brushing teeth.

---From "Why? ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis)"

Symptoms of autism are not the same in all children.
(Omitted) There is even a famous saying, “If you know one person with autism, then that is the only autistic person you know.”
---From "Autism or not?"

The most urgent goal in autism intervention is to help people recognize, need, and find people interesting.
It is important to teach them to look at people, get along with people, and interact with people.
---From "Reasons for Emphasizing Social Communication"

'Unresponsiveness' rather than 'ignoring' means not paying attention to the child, but to the child's 'behavior'.
Maintain interest in the child to prepare for any potentially dangerous situations, but do not respond to the child's tantrums 'procedurally'.
---From the column 'The Difference Between Ignoring and Not Responding'

The reason for reinforcing immediately after a behavior is to help the child realize which behavior was reinforced.
---「14.
From "Instant Strengthening in 0.1 Seconds"

We must not forget that the sweet reinforcement that comes with success is what keeps children trying to do things on their own even when their parents reduce their help.
---「20.
From “Teaching through Successful Experience”

Even if a child can speak, you must be careful when asking questions.
The most important rule is 'never ask a child a question you cannot answer.'
---「31.
From "Questions and Answers"

Time-out must be preceded by a time-in environment.
To implement a time-out, it is essential to first create a time-in environment in which the child can enjoy participating.
---From "The Correct Time-Out Method"

The 40 hours the program talks about are not only academic, but also include behavior modification, eating, toileting, dressing, self-help skills, and social skills.
Also, of course, parents are included in the treatment team.
That is, the 40 hours were not comprised solely of direct treatment from a specialist or therapist.
---From "ABA Misunderstandings and Truths ④"

Publisher's Review
Does your child often behave strangely?
Are you concerned about developmental delays or autism?
―You just have to change your parenting style.

Many of you may be hearing the word 'ABA' for the first time.
This is especially true for the "ABA parenting method." ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) is the scientific study of learning and behavior.
That is, to help children learn on their own.
Therefore, ABA can be applied to all humans, but is especially effective for children with developmental disabilities such as autism.
More and more people are becoming concerned about their children's strange behavior, such as not speaking, not making eye contact, and not responding when their name is called.
I searched the internet to find out why, but there was no definitive answer that would work for my child.
Rather, it only increases the anxiety of 'what if'.
Eventually, they go to the hospital for a developmental test, but the reality is not so easy.
It can take months, or even a year, just to wait.

What is needed at this time is ‘ABA parenting’.
This parenting is where parents apply ABA in all areas of their child's life at home to develop their child's language, cognition, etc.
The sooner this ABA treatment is applied, the better, and it is most effective for children aged 18 to 36 months who are developmentally delayed or suspected of having autism.
Therefore, if your child's development is judged to be slow, or if autism is suspected or diagnosed, you should use a new parenting method called ABA rather than the conventional, conventional parenting method.
This book, "ABA Parenting Methods that Match Growth and Development Without Rushing," is a parenting method based on the academic discipline of ABA, and provides early intervention methods so that parents can conduct ABA therapy at home.
This is the most basic version with the lowest difficulty level, and is designed to be easy to understand and learn for parents who are new to ABA, with cute illustrations and 4-panel comics.

The author of this book, Sangmin Han, is a parent of an autistic son and a certified international behavior analyst with a BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst, Master's level) certification from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) in the United States.
He is also widely known by his pen name, 'Tommy's Dad', for his active work in education, child therapy, and professional lectures for parents of autistic children like himself.

From the moment you wake up in the morning until just before you go to bed at night
ABA Parenting Applied to Every Child's Daily Life

Like most ABA experts, author Sangmin Han studied ABA for treatment after his second son was diagnosed with autism at 27 months of age.
When my son stopped speaking, I took him to the hospital and was left devastated by the unexpected diagnosis.
At that time, treatment methods for autistic children were not as well known in Korea as they are now.
The author, who graduated from the English Department of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, was searching for information overseas when he learned that ABA therapy for children with autism is active in the United States and is very effective.
Even now, waiting times at ABA centers are long, but back then, it was difficult to even find a center.
Eventually, I studied on my own and became the 14th behavior analyst (BCaBA, Bachelor's level) in the country.
After that, I completed my master's degree and then my doctoral course.

Among ABA professionals, a BCaBA must have 1,000 hours of ABA therapy practice, or clinical experience, to be eligible to take the exam, and a BCBA must have 1,500 hours of ABA therapy practice, or clinical experience.
So experts meet with a huge number of autistic children and their parents.
The author felt sorry that there was no guide for parents to use at home.
There wasn't really any book to recommend.
Most of the ABA books on the market are written by experts, making it difficult for parents who are new to ABA to understand.
In fact, ABA therapy should be implemented in every aspect of a child's daily life, whether at a center or at home, from the moment the child wakes up in the morning until just before going to bed at night.
Of course, the time spent with parents at home is much more than the time spent receiving treatment at the center 2-3 times a week.
This is why parents' role is so crucial and why they need to understand ABA. Even the 40 hours of ABA therapy per week encompasses every hour of their child's daily life.

The author, who knows this situation better than anyone else, said he was able to pour all of his parenting experience and professional knowledge into this book.
Do-young Lee, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and director of the Lifelong Support Center at the Hanmaeum Welfare Center in Seongnam City, said, “The necessary knowledge is recorded without omission, having been incorporated into various experiences,” and added, “I think it was possible because there was sufficient clinical experience and sincerity.”
I recommend it, saying, “The author’s skill is truly amazing.”

Don't rush, be steady, be patient
Consistently, at the pace of my child's development

However, not all parents can become ABA experts.
Parents can participate under the supervision of experts.
In other words, you can practice ABA parenting in your daily life. The biggest difference between ABA parenting and traditional parenting is its "perspective."
The principle is simple.
It just has to be tailored to the characteristics of the autistic child.
The problem is that we are trying to fit autistic children into the standards of typical children.
A typical example is that normal children learn on their own through imitation, but autistic children do not learn because they do not imitate.
I don't even feel the need to learn.
Therefore, parents should help their children learn on their own through ABA in their daily lives, and then gradually reduce the amount of help they provide.
At this time, parents should not rush, but should be patient and consistent, matching the child's developmental pace.
So, if you have any doubts about your child's development, I recommend starting ABA parenting right away.

Things parents must know and apply in their daily lives
― Learn 32 ABA Practice Points

This book explains ABA parenting methods in three parts.
The first part covers everything you need to know about autism, from self-diagnosis to how autism differs from typical children.
This is because, regardless of whether the child has autism or not, we must first understand what autism is so that we can respond accordingly.
The second part, which is the core of this book, is the basics of ABA parenting.
You can learn 32 practical points that parents must know and apply in their daily lives.
If you treat a child without mastering these basics, the success rate will be lower.
The final third part teaches practical know-how from experts applying the fundamentals.
In particular, basic methods for dealing with problem behaviors that are difficult to deal with on a daily basis and methods for responding to temper tantrums can be very useful in everyday life.

ABA experience case

He was a child who could do nothing but the 'please' gesture, but through ABA classes, he improved a lot in areas he was lacking, such as pointing, eye contact, concentration, name calling, behavioral imitation, visual perception, receptive language, cognition, and fine motor skills.
It's been a year.
― Lee Seung-ah: Mother of a 3-year-old child

I have a developmental screening at a university hospital, including an autism screening, scheduled for three months from now.
I am focusing on ABA therapy with hope and faith rather than anxiety and worry, believing that my child will grow steadily, albeit a little slowly.
― Jeong Ha-yoon: Mother of a 2-year-old child

Now, it has become possible to make requests and communicate to some extent through words.
Every time I went out, I had to avoid the automatic door opener buttons in stores and elevators, but (omitted) now I'm not afraid to go out.
― Oh Mi-sook (pseudonym): Grandmother of a 4-year-old child

Many doctors, including experts, agree that ABA therapy is the only treatment that works for children with autism and those with attention deficit disorder, and I agree with this 100%.
