Into the book
In my experience, children with a high level of native language development rarely fail to learn English early.
This is because children can understand English at the same level as their native Korean, and can improve their English level at the same level as their Korean level.
What's important in learning English is not the 'timing' of starting early, but the 'direction' of finding the right learning method.
However, English education for children in our country is focused on the 'early' period.
This is a problem that requires consideration to see if there is anything we are missing.
Parents need to put down their impatience first.
The saying, 'Haste makes waste' applies equally to English education.

Having taught students in the field for a long time, I have thought a lot about when children should start learning English.
I looked up countless papers and observed my children.
Through this series of processes, I have come to what I consider to be the 'correct' answer to the question, "When should I start learning English?"
“Start studying English after you have developed your native language, that is, after you have studied Korean.
If you were to ask me my age, I would say around 8 years old.
However, if your native language skills are lacking, you should focus more on Korean, and it is perfectly fine to start learning English a little later.
However, since English is taught as a regular curriculum in elementary schools these days, it is psychologically better for both parents and children to start before the age of 10.”

The existing mother-led English learning method is a one-way learning method led by mothers, which seems easy in terms of methodology and is easy to get started with.
However, early learning that starts early is actually a very 'difficult' learning method as it requires little interaction with the child, can cause side effects, and takes a long time to see results.
However, adding 'coaching' to the existing mother's English can reduce side effects.
Although the start of learning may be delayed, it is efficient because learning is child-led and tailored to the child's personality.
If going slowly but accurately is sure to be effective, wouldn't that be a truly 'easy' learning method?

In Mom's Coaching English, output refers to the process of checking whether the child knows what he or she inputs and then spitting it out.
The important point is that while it would be great if there was communication with others during the process, the child's own confirmation should take priority.
In other words, it means that the child must actively make the content that is input (listening & reading) through mom's English coaching every day into his or her own through output (speaking & writing).
When input and output are combined, synergy occurs, and skills are efficiently and effectively improved.

When my children entered first grade, I decided to focus only on 'reading' and 'English'.
In other words, it was designated as the 'Year of English Focus'.
I also gave the same advice to parents who came to me for counseling.
This way, children can study English in a fun and enjoyable way without getting tired, and parents can fully focus on their children's English.
Especially from a child's perspective, they can maintain interest in English because their skills improve as they focus.
Just like adults, children recognize that they are growing and feel proud of their increased skills.
And these ‘experiences of success’ become the driving force for advancing to a higher level.
However, if your child refuses to learn English, it is better to start after the child's resistance to English has disappeared and the child has developed motivation to learn, rather than forcing it.

Above all, it is most important to choose the right textbook for your child.
Once your child completes all of these steps and reaches level 7, which is equivalent to the 6th grade level in American elementary schools, he or she will be able to find English materials and read books on his or her own to study what he or she wants.
