The second story in the 'Three Lives, Three Worlds' series
A worldview that mixes Chinese legends, the Classic of Mountains and Seas, Taoism, and Buddhism.

The second story in the much-loved "Three Lives, Three Worlds" series.

Dangchil has been loved by readers for a long time for its unique worldview in the 'Three Lives, Three Worlds' series, which mixes Chinese mythology, the Shan Hai Jing, Taoism, and Buddhism.
In particular, the heartbreaking love story between the god of war, Mo Yan, and the reckless immortal, Baek Cheon, which was poignantly depicted in 『The Three Lives, Three Worlds, Ten Miles of Peach Blossom』, continued its popularity as it was made into a movie and a drama.
Thanks to the readers' love and support for the world of Samsangsamse, author Dangchil detailed the story of Dongwha Jegun and Bonggu in the 'Bed and Breakfast' series, and the relationship between Sushin Yeonsong and Hongokgunju Seongok in the 'Bosengyeon' series.

In 『Three Lives, Three Worlds, Bosengyeon 1』, the background of the Three Lives, Three Worlds series is introduced and the fateful meeting between Yeonsong and Seongok is depicted.
Yeonsong, a cold-hearted person who believes that everything in the world is empty, meets Seongok and awakens to the feeling of love.
However, Seong-ok only shows a bright appearance, unaware of Yeon-song's sorrowful feelings as she falls in love for the first time.
In 『Three Lives, Three Worlds, Bosengyeon 2』, their relationship deepens.
Yeonsong and Seongok realize that they love each other, but unexpected trials come one after another, and the two face separation once again.
In the world of the 'Three Lives, Three Worlds' series, which expands through the repetition of life and death, the intertwining fates of Yeonsong and Seongok, and the story of four people, Yeonran and Gyemyeongpung, who watch them with heartache, are delicately depicted.

Into the book
Since I knew that Yeonsam was Yeonran's cousin, I wasn't particularly surprised when they said they went out to drink tea in the morning.
But I didn't know we were this close.
Seongok wasn't very close with her cousins.
Seong-ok thought that Yeonsam Orabeoni had another younger sibling who he looked after so carefully.
I've hugged Yeonran so many times, just like you do. So, when Yeonran cries, will I wipe her tears? When Yeonran is struggling, will I hold her hand? Suddenly, Seong-ok felt a surge of anger.

--- p.27

Before she could even feel the pain, Yeonsam's sturdy body came rushing towards her and his hot lips covered Seongok's lips precisely.
Seongok opened her eyes wide.
It felt like even my heartbeat had stopped.
Suddenly, her vision cleared, and Seongok saw, in the dim light of the lantern, bright red maple leaves fluttering in the night breeze like butterflies dancing gently.

--- p.107

Yeonran spoke with her chin half resting on her hand.
“Everyone knows that the receiver is a womanizer.
In the past, even in heaven, there were always beautiful fairies by my brother's side.
But no matter how beautiful the fairy was, my brother only cared for her for a few months.
“You said your brother liked you, but…” Yeonran sighed.
“If you want to think that way, then do so.”
--- p.166

Jesohui looked at Yeonsong for a moment.
"Hasn't Su-sin already been avoiding Aok? I just hope he continues to do so in the future.
“This request will not be difficult.” A rustling sound was heard in the forest, and a wind blew so hard that it threatened to blow out the candles in the cave.
Eventually, the candles could no longer stand it and went out, and the cave was plunged into darkness in an instant.
Yeonsong opened her mouth.
“Even if I never appear in front of Ahok again, Ahok won’t like you.”
--- p.252

“My coming to you has nothing to do with the imperial edict.
“I couldn’t help but find it myself.” When Seong-ok was confused, Yeon-sam took a step closer and tightly held Seong-ok’s hand.
“Do you want to ask why?” Yeonsam answered, looking into Seongok’s eyes without waiting for her to nod or shake her head.
“I like you so much that I can’t let you marry into Onaso.”
--- p.322

Yeonsam took another step closer and looked at Seongok intently.
“I became greedy because you liked me too.
“I wish you would become a god for me.”
--- p.360

Yeonsam whispered in Seongok's ear.
“It doesn’t matter if you don’t believe it.
“I’ll prove it to you.” He kissed Seongok’s ear with his thin lips.
“I told you I wouldn’t hesitate to go through any trouble for the funeral.” He laughed lightly as if it were no big deal.
“That’s not what it means to be indifferent to fire and water.
“You are the only one in the world who can make me go through fire and water without any hesitation.”
--- p.392

Yeonsam didn't bother to ask why he kept wanting to kiss Seongok.
People in the world say that even if you don't know where emotions begin, they continue to deepen.
Yeonsam also knew very well that emotions were uncontrollable.

--- p.431

As Seongok slowly lowered her eyes and the fake smile on her face disappeared in an instant, Yeonran felt pleasure and smiled wryly.
“Even if His Majesty said he would give you to the Third Highness, do you really think you would become Susin’s wife?” Yeonran looked maliciously at the expressionless Seongok across the table.
“Huh, a wife of a monk? Do you think a mere human would be suitable?” “If I don’t fit in.” Seong-ok looked up indifferently and asked with her face still expressionless.
"Does it suit you, Sister? You keep ignoring humans. Aren't you also a human, just like me?"

Publisher's Review

“Even though we like each other, our feelings aren’t very deep, so please forget about me.”
Fates that intersect before the barriers of status and death

Yeonsong did not believe in beauty.
Because I saw death beyond what was visible to the eyes, I thought everything in the world was meaningless.
To such a Yeonsong, the immortal Jang Yi, who loved her second older brother and died locked in the Suyotap, was a curious figure.
So, Yeonsong came down to the human world as Yeonsam, a general of the Great Kingdom, and watched over Yeonran, the reincarnation of Jang Yi, in an attempt to find meaning in life.
However, it was through Seongok, whom he met by chance, that Yeonsong learned about love.
Even after seeing Seong-ok's death, his longing for her grows uncontrollably, and he desperately realizes that his feelings go beyond simple curiosity and are love.

Yeonsam shouldn't have come here tonight.
Even if he had come, he should not have shown himself in front of Seongok, and even if he had shown himself, he should not have approached her.
Even though I couldn't suppress the urge to get closer, I had to somehow refuse this hug.
It had to end now.
(p.42)

However, Yeonsong is frustrated by the difference in status between gods and humans.
To be with the immortal Yeonsong, Seongok must become an immortal through repeated reincarnations, and must suffer pain each time she reincarnates.
Yeonsam decides to leave Seongok because he is not sure if Seongok likes him enough to endure this.
As before, he treats Seong-ok coldly and prepares to break up, and Yeon-song participates in the war.

“We weren’t originally siblings,” Yeonsam said calmly.
(...)
“It’s clear you never even considered that we could do this,” Yeonsam said, rubbing his temples and speaking with extreme calm and coldness.
“Go away.” His voice was completely emotionless.
“Don’t come near me again.
“Stay away.” (pp.113-114)

Unlike Yeonsong, who is deeply troubled, Seongok is oblivious to her own feelings.
When Yeonsong, who was his step-sibling, confesses her feelings, he falls into confusion.
But while he is away at war, Seong-ok realizes that she too has fallen in love with Yeon-song.
He dreams of a happy future, hoping for Yeonsong's safe return, but Yeonsong only shows him a cold demeanor, leaving him wounded.
Moreover, due to the prolonged war, Seong-ok marries Onaso to make peace, and is in danger of death several times.
In this way, the story enters a deeper phase as Yeonsong and Seongok's past and future become intertwined.
