『Authentic Baekseok Poetry Collection』, which has established itself as the most reliable original version of Baekseok's poetry since its publication in 2007, has been newly published in a revised edition.
Professor Koh Hyeong-jin, an authority on Baek Seok studies, has contributed greatly to broadening the scope of understanding and research on Baek Seok's works by publishing a commentary on Baek Seok's poetry, Reading Baek Seok's Poetry, a dictionary of Baek Seok's poetic terms, "Multiple Names of Baek Seok's Poetry," and a compilation and commentary of Baek Seok's essays and novels, "The Complete Baek Seok Novels and Essays," reflecting the research results accumulated so far to further refine the notation and vocabulary of the complete edition, and by adding Baek Seok's poem "Hair," which was newly discovered after the first edition was published, he established a more complete complete edition of Baek Seok's poetry.
Along with 『The Original Baek Seok Novels and Essays』, this is a valuable work that completely captures the entirety of Baek Seok's literary world.

Publisher's Review
A jewel of modern Korean poetry,
Reading Baek Seok's poetry in its correct edition

Baek Seok is a jewel-like poet who breathed vibrant life into modern Korean poetry and is one of the most beloved poets in the history of modern Korean poetry.
Since his poetry collection and complete works were belatedly discovered and received attention in the 1980s, many publications have been published, but Professor Koh Heung-jin's 『Authentic Collection of Baek Seok's Poetry』 is considered the most reliable among them.
This is because it is a true and authentic copy of Baekseok's poetry, containing the long-term efforts of Professor Koh Heung-jin, who devoted himself to the study of Baekseok's poetry.
Establishing a standard edition of a literary work is a very important task in the history of literature because it serves as the basis for accurate study and appreciation of the work.
Its importance is especially great in Baek Seok's poetry.
As is well known, Baek Seok's poetry actively utilizes unfamiliar vernacular words, and if all of these were to be changed to modern standard language, the poetry would lose its flavor.
Professor Koh Heung-jin meticulously analyzes the language of the original Baek Seok poems and references relevant research to preserve the unfamiliar dialects and archaic words that are a key attraction of Baek Seok's poetry, while correcting typos and spelling errors resulting from the confusing spelling of the time, thereby bringing Baek Seok's poetry back to life in its entirety.

Bearing in mind these special circumstances surrounding Baek Seok's poetry, a very close examination and attention to the language of Baek Seok's original poems is required.
(……) This work will highlight the dialect, archaic words, and coined words used by Baek Seok, thereby further preserving the flavor of the original text as Baek Seok originally intended, and by refining the notation, it will become a way to make Baek Seok's poetry more familiar to today's readers. (「The Language and Notation of Baek Seok's Original Poetry, and the Principles of the Authenticity」, pp. 330-331)

Professor Koh Hyeong-jin, who has studied Baek Seok's poetry for a long time, has made special efforts to establish a reasonable standard for Baek Seok's poetry by deeply researching the vocabulary, phonology, and grammatical characteristics of the Pyeongan dialect that Baek Seok used based on his deep understanding of his poetic world, examining the contents of the unified Korean spelling system established at the time and the process of its establishment, and even meticulously examining the editing style of the publications at the time.
The section at the end of the book titled “Baekseok’s Original Language and Notation, and the Principles of the Original Version” provides a detailed explanation of the process, further enhancing confidence in the original version.
The process of confirming the original text that serves as the basis for the original text is also a part where the rigor of the 『Jeongbon Baekseok Poetry Collection』 stands out.
Professor Koh Heung-jin was not satisfied with the reprints of the pages containing Baek Seok's poems, but rather searched through the original magazines stored in various libraries one by one, comparing them with each other to increase the accuracy of the original reading. In cases where it was still difficult to determine the original text, he spared no effort in verifying the original text by comparing it with other types in the magazine.

Furthermore, one of the greatest features of the 『Jeongbon Baekseok Poetry Collection』 is the accurate explanation of the countless unfamiliar words that appear in Baekseok's poetry.
To this end, Professor Koh Hyung-jin not only consulted existing research on the language of Baek Seok's poetry, but also extensive data from related fields such as language, geography, customs, and history of the time related to Baek Seok's poetry, to confirm the meaning of the poetic language used by Baek Seok, and explained it in a friendly and concise manner, allowing today's readers to easily approach Baek Seok's rich linguistic field.
It is only natural that the works of an outstanding poet like Baek Seok transcend time and are loved by readers for a long time. However, behind this, there is painstaking research and effort to restore the seemingly unfamiliar works of the time into a form that can be easily accepted by today's readers.
This is the significance of the 『Authentic Baek Seok Poetry Collection』, which meticulously and over a long period of time examined each and every word of Baek Seok's poetry to find the correct form of his works.
