Description
Book Introduction
If you were given the chance to turn back time, how would you change your love and your life?
- A time travel of love to change the fate of your life!
- Guillaume Musso's novel turned into a Korean film!
It's already been 15 years since the first edition of "Will You Be There?" came out in 2007.
〈Bright World Publishing〉 has revised some vocabulary in accordance with spelling changes over the past 15 years, and has published a revised edition after a new proofreading process to address some parts where characters use dialogue that is out of date.
"Will You Be There?" was produced as a domestic film in 2015, directed by Hong Ji-young and starring Kim Yun-seok and Byun Yo-han, and once again garnered much attention and buzz.
Guillaume Musso has ranked first for eight consecutive years in the bestselling author rankings conducted annually by Le Figaro and the French Booksellers Association.
The 2018 novel 『Miss and the Night』 was produced as a six-part drama and aired on the broadcasting station 『FR2』, and many other novels have been produced as movies and dramas.
His novels are currently published in 45 countries around the world, drawing widespread sympathy and support from readers.
French media has been praising Guillaume Musso, calling him a phenomenon, a writer who best embodies the term 'page-turner,' and a writer who always surprises readers with plot twists that transcend the limits of imagination.
This novel begins with the question, "If you were given the chance to turn back time, how would you change your life and love?"
When we look back on our lives, we tend to recall more regrets and disappointments than happy and joyful memories, and more mistakes that we would like to correct by making different choices if given another chance.
However, humans are weak beings because they cannot turn back time, and are not given a second chance to recover from the mistakes they made while living.
As a result, everyone is bound to have buried sadness and regret.
There is no rehearsal in life.
Since we are given only one chance, we each strive fiercely to create a valuable and blessed life.
This novel offers us the opportunity to deeply reflect on the regrets we have been unable to achieve in life and the fate we have to accept with tears in our eyes.
We've all probably had the thought in our heads of wanting to hop in a time machine and travel back in time to a point in time where we could fix a fatal mistake in our lives.
The protagonist of this novel, Elliot, has lived a successful life for the past 30 years with more sincerity than anyone else, but he has a regret that he has never been able to shake off.
His fervent wish is to meet his lover Ilina, who died in an accident 30 years ago.
Elliot, who went on a medical mission to Cambodia to cure a child's illness and received a bottle containing ten golden pills as a gift from a mysterious old man, seizes the opportunity to time travel 30 years into the past and change his fate.
The moment readers open this novel, they embark on a thrilling and mysterious time travel with Elliot.
How will Elliot's love and life change when he's given the chance to travel back in time? What hardships await him as he's granted the chance to transcend the barriers of time? After returning to the past 30 years, Elliot manages to save Ilina after a series of twists and turns. However, a change in a past fact so closely intertwined with his own life unleashes a butterfly effect of chaos that is difficult to manage.

The old man asked the doctor.
“Do you have a wish you earnestly desire?”
The doctor asked again, not understanding the question.
“What does that mean?”
“I asked if there was a wish that I absolutely wanted to come true.”
The doctor, who suddenly became sentimental, as if due to extreme fatigue, answered calmly.
“There is a woman I really want to meet.”
“What if she’s a woman?”
“She is the one woman who is more precious to me than anything else in the world.”
At that moment, a solemn and mysterious atmosphere flowed between the two people who were facing each other in a place far from the civilized world.
The old man asked with a curious expression.
“Where is that woman now?”
“He lost his life in an accident 30 years ago.”
The old man frowned slightly and fell into thought for a moment.
After a while of silence, the old man got up from his seat and walked to his room.
Dried seahorses, ginseng, and poisonous snakes soaked in formalin were lined up in a mess on a plank used as a shelf.
After searching through the shelves for a while, the old man found a small bottle and held it in his hand.
An old man approached the doctor and handed him a bottle.
The bottle contained ten golden pills.

Elliot approached the old gentleman, unable to contain his embarrassment.
Looking closely, I was struck by how strikingly similar his face was to my father.
Not only the overall shape of the face, but even the dimples, which are a family history, were carved out.
'Is it your father? No, come to your senses.
My father has already passed away.
You saw the body being placed in the coffin at the hospital.'
As Elliot approached, the old man took a few steps back.
He, too, looked as confused as Elliot.
“Elliot?”
'How on earth did this old gentleman know my name? And what about that voice?'
To say that I never had a close relationship with my father would be an understatement.
Elliot lived with frequent beatings from his father.
It was only after my father passed away that I regretted not trying to understand him more.
Elliot was stunned, his throat choked with emotion.
"father?"
“I am not your father.”
Even after hearing the obvious answer, my heart still didn't calm down.
“Then, who are you?”
The old gentleman placed his hand on Elliot's shoulder.
He hesitated for a moment and then said.
“Elliot, I am you.”
Elliot took a step back, his body frozen like a fossil.
“I am sure it is you.
“What it will look like in 30 years.”

Ilina was satisfied with her job as a veterinarian.
She was the resident veterinarian at Ocean World and was responsible for the animals' health.
He was also involved in aquarium maintenance, meal preparation and supervision, and trainer training.
It was rare to find someone at Ocean World who did so many different things.
Given her age and gender, her rapid promotion was the result of dedicated effort.
She was fascinated by the sea from a young age, and was especially interested in whales.
Ilina majored in marine biology in college, received in-depth training in animal psychology, and became a licensed veterinarian.
Her major actually had very few job opportunities and a bleak outlook.
Getting the chance to work with dolphins or killer whales was as difficult as becoming an astronaut.
Ilina never gave up on her dream, and ultimately proved that her choice was right.
Five years ago, in 1971, the Walt Disney Company decided to build Disney World in Orlando.
The arrival of Disney World and the influx of tourists transformed Orlando, once a small rural town, into one of Florida's most famous tourist destinations.
The Walt Disney Company subsequently built Ocean World, the largest zoo in the United States, in Miami.

“When the super glue fumes settle on the fingerprints that are invisible to the naked eye, they form a kind of protective film, which both reveals the fingerprint and preserves it.
“The series of processes I just described are carried out through polymerization.”
Detectives Matt and Douglas looked at Detective Malden with puzzled eyes.
They were witnessing a pioneering experiment that would revolutionize fingerprinting a few years later.
Elliot kept his eyes on the cardboard box, curious about the results.
Detective Malden opened the lid of the cardboard box, judging that enough time had passed.
There were hard white deposits on three places on the lighter.
It was an unmistakable fingerprint.
Detective Malden bent down and examined the fingerprints.
“The fingerprint clearly visible on one side of the lighter is that of a thumb, while the fingerprints on the other side appear to be the tips of the index and middle fingers.”
Detective Malden carefully wrapped the evidence in a handkerchief and put it in his trench coat pocket.
Detective Malden said to Elliot.
“Now, let’s compare this fingerprint with the fingerprints in the police data, right?”
Elliot stated his demands.
“I would like you to compare this fingerprint with my fingerprint.”
Then he took a fountain pen out of his pocket, poured some ink on the table, moistened each finger with ink, and then found a clean page in his notebook and made a fingerprint.

How the man of the future would come was another matter.
Although he wasn't much of a science fiction reader, he had studied Einstein's theory of relativity in college.
Einstein argued that time travel was entirely possible, but only if it could surpass the speed of light.
But the assumption that the strange visitor would fly in at 300,000 kilometers per second, like Superman, was simply too far-fetched to be true.
It seemed that the answer to how time travel was possible had to be found elsewhere.
'Then from the black hole side?'
I once saw a documentary about black holes on television.
It was said that black holes have a gravitational field that can manipulate space and time at will.
Theoretically, it is possible for a person to be sucked into a black hole and reappear at a different time.
Of course, it was not a realistically possible hypothesis.
If a person were to be sucked into a black hole, their body would be torn apart and shattered into pieces as they passed through the gravitational field.
The possibility that the human body could survive in a black hole was very slim.

The time traveler took a sip of beer and pulled a Marlboro out of his pocket.
Elliot asked, lighting it with a Zippo lighter.
“You can take the lighter back if you want.”
“Just leave it there.
“You’re going to be my lighter anyway.”
The musicians in the cafe were singing the Beatles' "Yesterday."
“What kind of music will you mostly listen to in the future?”
“There are many different types of music out there, but I can’t guarantee that any of them are better than the Beatles.”
“Did the Beatles reunite?”
“In the end, we couldn’t reunite.
Now there's less than a 1 percent chance of reunion.
“John Lennon was assassinated, and George Harrison is dead.”
“What about Paul McCartney?”
“He is still active.”
As the performance began, the room became quiet.
Almost simultaneously, the two turned towards the whale tank.
The veterinarians entered to applause from the audience.
The old man narrowed his eyes.
“Is that woman Ilina?”
“Yes, Ilina.”
“I can’t stay here long.
Because in just a few more minutes I have to go back.
“From now on, I don’t have enough time to just look at Ilina.”
Elliot watched the time traveler walk out of the cafe and up to the upper level of the stands.

Elliot reluctantly sat down in the chair opposite.
The time traveler searched through his jacket pocket and took out a photograph.
He handed Elliot the photo.
Elliot looked at the photo carefully.
“I can guess who it is.
The girl's name is Angie, and she is currently twenty years old.
“My daughter is more precious than life itself, and she is the most precious treasure in the world.”
“Is the child’s mother Ilina?”
“This child’s mother is not Ilina.”
“Then who is it?”
“Angie was born ten years after Ilina lost her life.”
“How can I believe that?”
“I have no reason to lie.”
Elliot confessed a question that had been nagging at him since last night.
“Why did you say I killed Ilina?”
The time traveler hesitated for a moment, as if choosing his words carefully.
“You didn’t love Ilina properly.”
Elliot got up in anger and stormed off.
“I value Ilina more than my own life right now.”
“You treated Ilina as if she had a long life left.
“Love isn’t something you can do leisurely like that.”
“Do you have a wish you earnestly desire?”
The doctor asked again, not understanding the question.

Publisher's Review
Humans are fateful and imperfect beings.
In this novel, Guillaume Musso talks about the fact that humans are fateful beings.
Even if we were given the chance to go back in time, it shows that our lives are not easily changed, and even if we could change them, it is not easy to have a happy ending.
If Elliot goes back 30 years to save Ilina, his daughter Angie will never be able to come into this world.
This is because Angie is the daughter he had with another woman after Irina died in an accident.
If you choose Illina, you have to give up Angie.
Elliot cannot avoid the agony of being at a crossroads.
Whichever way you choose, you will be left with unbearable sadness and regret.
The novel depicts Elliot using his wisdom and imagination to make the most ideal choice.
Another pleasure of reading this novel is observing how he overcomes the pain and confusion that are difficult to manage.
San Francisco, the setting of this novel, is also the birthplace of American hippie culture and non-mainstream culture in the 1960s and 1970s.
There seems to be no better place than San Francisco, where present and past, reality and surreality intersect.
In this novel, Guillaume Musso makes full use of the charm of San Francisco as an element that stimulates the readers' visual imagination.
If I close my eyes, I can picture the streets of San Francisco with Elliot's Beetle driving past.
The details of American pop culture from the 1970s also present a sensual charm that makes readers feel like they are watching a Hollywood movie.
Readers will also find it fascinating to see how 70s interests, such as the hippie culture of the 70s, the Beatles, Elvis Presley, the Cold War, and the nuclear arms race, have transformed into present-day aspects.
Through this novel, Guillaume Musso advises us, who are caught up in the past and future, to live in the present.
Everyone tries to avoid making mistakes that could lead to lifelong regret.
However, human life is filled with unintentional mistakes and misfortunes.
Humans cannot change their destiny, but they can improve it.
The protagonist of this novel, Elliot, tries with all his might to change his fate, but what he eventually realizes is that humans are imperfect beings.
In this novel, Guillaume Musso delivers the message that humbly accepting the truth that humans are imperfect beings is the basis for truly cherishing life.
The lover I have longed for for 30 years, now I go to see her again!
