Into the book
I used to think to myself that even if I wasn't a great child, I was not a bad child, and that I was quite useful.
But as I raised my children, I quickly realized that wasn't the case.
I've come to realize that there are many times when I have to swallow the words I have in my mouth without being able to spit them out.
I thought I just had to give love... ...but I learned that sometimes you have to let go and give up on that love.
I didn't know raising children would be this difficult.
I never knew being a parent would be this difficult.

--- From the author's note

Even getting off the bus is difficult.
A few stops before getting off, I start to feel anxious.
I hate it when other people's time is wasted because of me.
But if you rush it… … .
If you fall and break something, you are the only one who suffers, so it is quite nerve-wracking.

As Ki-taek's video grew into a meme, Tae-kyung saw Ki-taek as no longer an incompetent father.
It was a strong hope.
He was the savior who would free her from her miserable life.
Taekyung muttered quietly without realizing it.

“Oh my father…….”
--- p.53

The past days flashed before my eyes.
He regretted the past when he had been blunt to his own children, just like he had been to Geumja.
Such pretty kids… … .
Ki-taek wanted to protect the happiness of this moment.
I vowed over and over again that I would not get sick until the day I paid off all my debts.

Publisher's Review
Old father who has nothing,
A family living in their own city with their own problems
Rising as the last hope!

It is only after becoming a parent that you begin to realize that your father and mother must have had different dreams.
Even when I think about it, I can't seem to approach my old parents.
Life is busy, sometimes it's a little tough, or I just have time to spend with my family, so it's hard to make a phone call.

A family that was closer than anyone else, but now even a single phone call is rare.
Author Jeong Tae-hwa's novel, "Please Subscribe to My Father," tells the story of such a family in a unique way.

O Gi-taek, a country bumpkin who gets anxious when he gets off the bus late because he thinks he might cause trouble to others, and who doesn't even talk much to his only younger sister.
Tae-kyung, the son and head of the household, is in debt due to a failed business, and Ji-young, the daughter, is struggling financially after her husband takes early retirement.
This family, like any other family, lives in its own city with its own problems.
Although they feel sorry for each other, they gradually drift apart as they get caught up in their own daily lives.

Then one day, an unexpected video shakes up this family's life.
A video of a drunken old man swinging his fist in the air and shouting has gone viral on social media.
The person on the screen was none other than Oh Gi-taek, and people were laughing, but his son Tae-kyung, who saw the video, couldn't bring himself to laugh.
Because my father's face, which had always been blunt and stern, seemed unfamiliar.

What Taekyung encounters is a part of his father's hidden youth, but he becomes angry when he first sees the video.
Because I was embarrassed, I soon had another dream in that video.
His father, Oh Gi-taek, had a goal of becoming a YouTuber and making money to become successful.

A family that needs to talk,
A cheerful and touching family growth sitcom

While son Tae-kyung returns to his hometown, determined to make his father a YouTube star, daughter Ji-young returns to the countryside with a different purpose.
The idea is to connect her father with a wealthy ex-lover to ease his burden of support.

Father Oh Gi-taek is even happy and grateful for that.
A shabby country bumpkin with no wealth, 'black skin and dark spots all over his body, the result of long hours of hard work.'
He decides to jump into the world of YouTube for his son and daughter, who have already become fathers and mothers.
From stage makeup to idol dances and all sorts of catchphrases… the biggest farce in the history of a small rural village unfolds.

Of course, running YouTube isn't easy for this family.
Tae-kyung, the son who is determined to succeed, nags his old father and Ji-young, Ji-young, the daughter, runs wild trying to get her father to remarry, and the country bumpkin, Oh Gi-taek, suffers from a mental illness because of a love that came out of the past.

A hilarious yet heartbreaking family growth sitcom follows a son and daughter whose lives are a mess as they start a haphazard YouTube channel with their aging father.
Will they be able to reconcile and achieve their respective goals? The novel "Please Subscribe to My Father" unfolds with captivating storytelling.

“Why does it take so long for my father to understand?”
Encountering my father's horrific past

The novel, “Please Subscribe to My Father,” says, “I didn’t know raising children would be this difficult.
This is a novel filled with the author's sincerity, as he confesses, "I didn't know being a parent would be this difficult."
Not only is it sincere, it actually contains family.
Author Jeong Tae-hwa stated that this novel is “a story filled with the memories and love of my grandfather, grandmother, maternal grandfather, maternal grandmother, and both sets of parents.”

We don't know what our parents were like before they became parents.
What kind of dreams did you have, what kind of love did you have, what kind of youth did you have… And only when you become a parent do you begin to understand your mother and father little by little.
The author resolves the gap between family members, sometimes comically and sometimes tearfully.

This novel is author Jeong Tae-hwa's first book.
A writer who dreamed of entering the theater world after graduation, having performed his own scripts on stage while participating in a drama club in college, but was blocked by the high wall of reality.
Even while working other jobs to make a living, he never gave up writing. "Please Subscribe to My Father" is the work that finally brought his long-held dream of becoming a "storyteller" to reality.
