Description
Book Introduction
Mao Zedong praised him as a writer who “raised the spirit of the Chinese nation.”
Zhu Ziqing's honest and lucid prose

Zhu Ziqing is a prose writer who is on par with Yu Dafu.
Although he achieved some success in poetry and novels, he was even more successful in prose writing.
His prose clearly displays a view of nature that continues tradition, a view of humanity that aims for a new society, and a progressive awareness of the advancement of history.
For this reason, Chinese leader Mao Zedong praised him as “a writer who raised the spirit of the Chinese nation,” and he is still loved as the most famous prose writer in China to this day.

The characteristic of Zhu Ziqing's prose lies, above all, in its delicate and beautiful descriptions.
His prose, which draws on his love for humanity and nature and uses all five senses, is reminiscent of an ink painting filled with oriental lyricism.
The context that flows naturally like water, the sentences that are so full of emotion that they seem like they could drip water at any moment, are, as he said, a product of imagination.
He emphasized the importance of imagination, saying, “The main ingredient of creation is imagination, the creator’s only guide.”
Zhu Ziqing's specific and vivid expressions still transport readers into a world of emotion across time.
Once one falls into the poetic sentiment he creates, it will be difficult for anyone to escape that feeling.

Into the book
A late spring dawn came to mind.
As the falling drizzle gently wets my face, I fall into a moist and refreshing feeling.
When a fresh breeze blows through my sleeves, it feels like the breath of my loved one's breath is tickling the back of my hand.
When a misty rain falls on the white stone path in the garden where I stand, it feels as if whipped cream has been thinly spread on it, and with every step I take, a lovely, slippery sensation is transmitted.
---From "Song"

After the lanterns were turned on, darkness fell heavily.
The gloomy water color was like a dream, and the occasional sparkling light was like the pupils of a dream.
We were sitting in the bow, and the rounded roof made it seem as if we were moving forward with our heads held high.
As we sailed forward, cutting through the wind, we saw pleasure boats stopping randomly and people busily moving about inside them.
Everything felt so distant, like looking down from heaven, and so hazy, like looking at flowers in the fog.

Crossing the tracks and getting onto the platform on the other side seemed difficult.
My father jumped with both legs up, pressing down on the platform floor with both hands.
The sight of his fat body tilting slightly to the left was clear, showing his struggles.
As I watched my father's back, tears welled up in my eyes.

Moonlight poured down quietly like flowing water onto the lotus leaves and flowers.
A pale, bluish mist rose from the pond.
The lotus leaves and flowers looked like they had been washed in milk or like a dream wrapped in a thin net.
It was a full moon, but it wasn't very bright because of the thin clouds.
Still, it was good.
Deep sleep is necessary, but even a light sleep has its own unique charm.
---From "Moonlight Reflected in the Pond"

When you climb up to Pingshantang in Shugang, the hazy outline of the Jiangnan mountains unfolds before your eyes.
This is a place where the saying, “The mountains seem to have color but don’t.” is perfectly fitting.
There are not many tourists, so you can sit leisurely and enjoy the view all day long.
The scenery along the waterway is also incredibly peaceful.
As you take a boat from Tianningmen or Beimen and leisurely cruise past the winding city walls, casting dark shadows across the water, the bustle of the coast seems to fade away.
---From "Summer in Yangzhou"

I once said that my 'memory path' was as flat as a whetstone and as straight as an arrow.
I have never lived my life with a nervous heart.
It was the same even during my youth, which people often say is the prime of my life.
My color has always been gray.
My job has been to teach students in three places, I've only ever had a few friends, and she's always been the only woman I've ever known.
Some people live so rich and complex lives that they forget themselves and don't even know themselves properly, but I always know and remember clearly and clearly how simple I am.
---From "On Having Nothing to Say"

I remember it was winter.
My mother dressed me in a jujube-colored silk robe, a black silk magoja, and a black silk hat with a red tassel, and told me to behave properly.
I met a man on the woman's side at a tea house.
He had a square face and large ears, and he looked to be about my age now. He was wearing a hemp robe and a magoja, as if he had been injured.
He kept looking at me with a detailed expression and asking me what I was studying and such.
---From "Until I Met My Wife"

Recognizing that having children is an individual right and, more importantly, a service to society, we must assume social responsibility for childbirth and education.
We must educate our children not as our own successors but as the next generation of society.
In such a case, the idea that you can treat your daughter however you want or that you educate your son for the benefit of your family and yourself is bound to be criticized.
If this view becomes established as a trend, a new moral view will emerge: that being a parent is the most noble and sacred duty and right of human beings, and the best opportunity to contribute to society.
