Publisher's Review
The Hope Diary of Kim Ki-hyun, a Person with Moderate Visual Impairment

Mr. Kim Ki-hyun is a person with moderate disabilities.
During my dreamy and energetic freshman year of college, I was undergoing what I thought would be a simple jaw surgery for malocclusion, but an unexpected medical accident resulted in paralysis and blindness.
Thanks to the loving care of his family, his motor skills miraculously recovered, but he lost his eyesight forever.
The youngest daughter, who was beautiful, smart, and a gifted student, was well-studied enough to be admitted to Yonsei University through special admission, and who received a lot of love from her family, but before she could even enjoy the freedom of college life, she had to go through tremendous hardships.
The author and his family tried everything to restore his eyesight, but in the end, he had to accept the diagnosis of blindness.
The shock and despair the author had to endure were bound to be great, as he suffered the misfortune of losing his eyesight at a time when he should have been happiest.
She changed her major and returned to school after four years, but the fight against the changed reality was exhausting and depressing. Then, a ray of hope came to her.
Through a Christian class, he came to believe in Jesus Christ and began to see his visual impairment as a blessing in helping others who were suffering similar pain to his own.

A new life enjoyed only by those who have overcome darkness

After gaining faith, the author's life changed dynamically.
All her prayers were answered, and she fell in love with a young man with normal eyesight and had a touching wedding.
And, out of love for the disabled and sensitivity to their practical needs, I decided to study abroad in the United States to realize my dream of helping the disabled and underprivileged find jobs.
The author, who graduated from the Catholic University of Korea's Graduate School of Special Education and confidently passed a difficult course even for non-disabled students and entered the Boston University Master's Program in Rehabilitation Counseling with a scholarship, is surrounded by a constant stream of love and support, including her husband, who enjoys cooking.
Despite being an international student with a disability, the author has been blessed with many academic achievements among Boston University students.
Not only did she give birth to a healthy, handsome son, but her path to a doctorate is also progressing smoothly.

Lessons and inspiration from the pain experienced during the happiest times

Kihyun's story, which touches happiness with the eyes of the heart, has a special emotion that is different from the human essays of people with disabilities that have already been published.
The author, just after becoming an adult, lost his most important sense, his eyesight, due to an acquired accident during his free and happy freshman year of college.
That misfortune would be a pain that would be difficult to fathom for someone who has not experienced it firsthand.
A life-altering accident that sends you crashing down at the peak of your happiness can happen to anyone, but for a freshman college student like Kihyun, full of dreams and a bright future, the lessons learned from the hardship of being eclipsed by a sudden accident are bound to be special.

The author's voice, which asks for consideration in a society that fails to understand the "different lives" of people with disabilities and only regards them as "unfortunate lives," is noteworthy in many ways.
It also provides the secret to happiness through the light of life that can be seen with the eyes of the heart to those suffering from deep despair and depression.
The author, as a rehabilitation counselor who has been a wounded healer, is working to create a society where people with disabilities do not experience inconvenience. She is currently taking care of her baby, Yesung, who was born with the book, and is focusing on her studies.
